What is inside
Bar mark, member, Ø, shape, cut length, members × bars per member = pieces, total length.
kg per metre = d² ÷ 162; total weight with an allowance for laps and waste.
Pieces per stock bar, stock bars to order, offcut per bar and waste %, per line.
Weight and number of 6, 7.5, 9, 10.5 and 12 m bars per diameter.
Yellow cells are for you to type, blue cells are calculated. Ordinary formulas, no macros — opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice. Licence CC BY 4.0 · © Layers (layers.md).
How to use it
1
Take bar marks, diameters and spacing from the structural plans and schedules.
2
Clear length plus hooks, bends and laps — type it in metres.
3
Number of members and bars per member; pieces and length follow.
4
Pick the stock length per line to keep the offcut small (6 m by default).
5
Use the order summary for the purchase request; keep the list for the bar bender.
What people do next
Concrete, formwork and tie wire use the same member list.
The foreman and the bar bender see the same list on their phones.

Open the .xlsx in the Layers spreadsheet editor with formulas, without Microsoft Office.
Weight per metre in kg = d² ÷ 162, with d in millimetres. A 16 mm bar weighs 16² ÷ 162 = 1.58 kg/m; a 6 m bar weighs about 9.5 kg.
Stock length ÷ cut length, rounded down. From a 6 m bar you get four 1.4 m pieces and a 0.4 m offcut.
Commonly 6, 7.5, 9, 10.5 and 12 m — choose per line; the order summary counts each length separately.
Type the full cut length including hooks, bends and lap splices; the allowance % covers extra waste.
