How to use it

Five steps

  1. 1

    Options

Name the options across the top.

  2. 2

    Criteria

List what matters and weight it 1–5.

  3. 3

    Score

Questions

What is a weighted decision matrix?

A table that scores each option against criteria, multiplies each score by the criterion's weight and adds them up. The highest weighted score is the best fit for what matters to you.

How do I weight criteria?

Give each criterion 1 (nice to have) to 5 (must have). The template turns weights into percentages that add up to 100%.

How do I score price, where lower is better?

Give the cheapest option the highest score, or type the prices on the Scale sheet with "Lower" — it computes 1–5 scores for you.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes, the .xlsx opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice.

Do I have to sign up?

No. The matrix is open on this page; sign in free only to save it.
