Romanian christening budget — what a botez costs, monthly savings and the gifts

Questions
How much does a christening in Romania cost for 60 guests?
It depends on the restaurant menu: enter your own quotes. In the example (fictitious amounts) it is 32,500 lei, or 3,438 lei a month from October 2026 to May 2027 after 5,000 lei already saved.
What do the godparents (nași) pay for?
Traditionally the nași buy the christening candle and the trousseau (trusou: towel, sheet, white clothes, cross) and give the child a gift, while the parents pay for the restaurant, cake, favours, photographer and service. Customs vary by region — agree it together.
What gift do guests give at a Romanian christening?
Usually cash. There is no official amount: the Excel lets you enter your own estimate for couples, single guests and the nași, and shows the balance against the cost.
What papers are needed?
The birth must be registered with the civil status office within 30 days (Law no. 119/1996, Art. 14^1). The parish usually asks for the child's birth certificate — ask the priest when you book.
What is in the Excel file?
The budget with formulas, monthly instalments, estimated gifts and balance, a checklist (papers, what the godparents buy, what the parents prepare) and a guest list with a “Gift received” column.
