Your plan
Your 52-week challenge in pounds — every date and every deposit
A goal, a way to save and the day of the first deposit. You get the deposit for every week, the running total and the chart; the tracker prints on one sheet.
Want a reminder on each deposit day? We email you on those dates.
The calendar file works without an account. The email reminder needs a free account so we know where to send it.- Print the tracker or keep the Excel on your phone; tick a box every week.
- Sign your plan. To make it automatic, hand your bank the standing order request in the Word file.
- Saving with a shop's Christmas club instead? Ask how your payments are protected — a trust or insurance has been required since 1 January 2026.
Arithmetic only: going up — week n × step, step = goal ÷ (1 + 2 + … + 52) rounded up to the penny (£1 × 52 weeks = £1,378); same amount — goal ÷ 52; reverse — the same steps backwards. Shop-run savings clubs: GOV.UK guidance on consumer savings schemes (DMCCA 2024). Not financial advice.

Deadlines
The rules, with the source
| What | Deadline | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Classic challenge | week n × step; £1 step → £1,378 in 52 weeks; £2 → £2,756 | arithmetic: 1 + 2 + … + 52 = 1,378 |
| Same every week | goal ÷ 52; £20 a week → £1,040 | arithmetic |
| Reverse | the same steps in reverse: the biggest deposit first, in January, when money is fresh | arithmetic |
| Saving with a shop's Christmas club | since 1 January 2026 the trader must protect your payments in a trust or with insurance; small traders (turnover under £1 million, no customer balance above £120) are excluded | GOV.UK guidance on consumer savings schemes (DMCCA 2024), 18.11.2025 |
The challenge itself is arithmetic, not a rule. The only law here is about shop-run savings clubs; saving on your own, in your own account, is outside it.
Step by step
What to do, in order
1
Pick the goal
Next Christmas, a holiday, a rainy-day fund.

Going up is the classic; same every week is steadier; reverse front-loads the big weeks.
3
Set the date
A Monday or your payday: the tracker works out every date.
4
Print and tick
One box per week; the Excel adds up what you have saved.
5
Automate it
The standing order request for your bank is in the Word file.
Questions
How much is the 52 week savings challenge in pounds?
£1,378 with a £1 step: £1 in week 1, £2 in week 2, up to £52 in week 52. With £2 it is £2,756.
Is a shop Christmas savings club safe?
Since 1 January 2026 a trader running one must protect your payments in a trust or with insurance, unless it is small (under £1 million turnover and no balance above £120). Ask the shop how your money is protected.
What if I can't manage the last weeks?
Use reverse: start with £52 in January and finish with £1 before Christmas.
