Questions

How much deposit do I need for a house in the UK?

Lenders decide; many ask for 5% to 10% of the price. Add solicitor, survey and moving costs, and stamp duty if the price is over £300,000 for a first-time buyer.

Is a Lifetime ISA worth it for a deposit?

The government adds 25% of what you put in, up to £1,000 a year, if you buy a first home of £450,000 or less at least 12 months after your first payment. Other withdrawals have a 25% charge.

Do first-time buyers pay stamp duty?

Not up to £300,000. From £300,001 to £500,000 you pay 5% on that portion. Over £500,000 the relief cannot be claimed.
