Your sari-sari store in pesos — capital, profit each month and when it pays back

Put in your daily sales, your average markup, the days you open, the monthly costs and your starting capital. You see the gross profit, the net profit each month, the months to earn back the set-up, and what goes back into stock. The Excel file has inventory and a listahan ng utang. No sign-up.

  1. Write your daily sales for a month in the Excel «Daily sales» sheet — the average you get is better than any guess.
  2. Keep utang in the «Listahan ng utang» sheet and set a limit per suki.
  3. Register: barangay clearance, mayor's permit, DTI business name and BIR — and ask your municipal treasurer about BMBE registration.

Arithmetic only: gross profit = sales × markup ÷ (100 + markup). The 8% line is the optional income tax on gross sales above ₱250,000 (RA 10963) for those within the VAT threshold — shown only to compare; BIR registration decides your tax. Not tax or business advice.

Questions

How much capital do I need for a sari-sari store?

Set-up (shelves, freezer, screen, signage) + first stock + permits. The examples here go from ₱25,000 for a small window store to ₱145,000 for a busy corner store.

How much is the profit of a sari-sari store?

Gross profit = sales × markup ÷ (100 + markup). With ₱6,000 sales a day and 15% markup, that is about ₱23,478 a month before electricity, rent and other costs.

What permits do I need?

Barangay clearance, mayor's permit, DTI business name and BIR registration; ask your treasurer about the BMBE Certificate of Authority (RA 9178). The Word file has the checklist.

Do I pay income tax?

A registered BMBE is exempt from income tax on income from its operations (RA 9178, s. 7). Otherwise BIR rules apply — the calculator shows the 8% option only for comparison.

How do I keep track of utang?

Use the Excel «Listahan ng utang» sheet: name, date, items, amount, paid and balance, with a total of what is outstanding.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

It is free and you do not need to sign up: fill in, see the result and download the Excel and Word files. With a free account you can save a copy to your Layers.
