Packing list template for export — fill it in, print it with the commercial invoice

The packing list is open below — type the cartons and goods. The Excel version totals weights and CBM, fills the commercial invoice from the packing list and keeps a statement of shipments and payments for your buyer.

Questions

Is a packing list required for export?

In practice yes: the forwarder, customs and, under a letter of credit, the bank ask for it together with the commercial invoice and the bill of lading. It is how cartons and weights are checked against the booking.

What is the difference between a packing list and a commercial invoice?

The packing list describes how the goods are packed — cartons, weights, dimensions — for the forwarder and customs inspection. The commercial invoice states the price and value for payment and customs duty. Both use the same descriptions and quantities.

How do I calculate CBM?

CBM = number of cartons × length × width × height in cm ÷ 1,000,000. A 40 × 30 × 25 cm carton is 0.03 m³; 400 of them are 12 m³.

Which Incoterms does it support?

Any of the Incoterms 2020 rules — choose it from the list. Freight and insurance lines are for CIF, CIP and similar terms.

Can I use it for air freight?

Yes. Use the AWB number instead of the B/L; chargeable weight is the larger of gross weight and volume weight (CBM × 167 kg for air).

Do I have to sign up?

No. The packing list is open on this page; sign in free only to save it.
