Term dates: Ministry of Education (education.govt.nz), 2027. Schools choose their Term 1 start (28 January – 3 February) and Term 4 end (no later than 17 December). Budget amounts are yours, not average prices; weekly payments run from today to the week before the holidays, the last one adjusts.

Schools and kura choose their Term 1 start and Term 4 end within these limits; terms 2 and 3 are fixed. Easter Tuesday 30 March 2027 is a school holiday. Check your school's newsletter for teacher-only days.

When does school start in 2027 in NZ?

Term 1 starts between Thursday 28 January and Wednesday 3 February 2027 — each school chooses within that window — and ends Friday 9 April.

When are the 2027 school holidays?

Saturday 10 April to Monday 26 April, Saturday 3 July to Sunday 18 July, Saturday 25 September to Sunday 10 October; the summer holidays start no later than Saturday 18 December 2027 and run for 5 or 6 weeks.

Which public holidays fall in term time in 2027?

Waitangi Day observed Monday 8 February, Good Friday 26 March, Easter Monday 29 March (and Easter Tuesday 30 March as a school holiday), King's Birthday 7 June, Matariki 25 June and Labour Day 25 October.

Are primary and secondary dates the same?

The term windows are the same; secondary schools need slightly fewer half days and may close earlier at the end of the year. Both must open at least 376 half days in 2027.
