A journal is useful when every trade follows the same definitions.

Reconcile first; interpret the win rate only after costs and losing trades are present.

Step by step

What to do, in order

  1. 1

    Record

Enter one row per trade; leave Exit blank while a trade remains open.

  2. 2

    Reconcile

Match closed trades and fees to the brokerage statement before relying on totals.

  3. 3

    Review

Compare setups, largest losses, rule adherence, and notes; do not treat past results as a forecast.

Questions

How does the spreadsheet calculate P&L?

Long P&L is (exit − entry) × quantity − fees; short P&L reverses the price difference.

How is win rate calculated?

Winning closed trades divided by all closed trades. Breakeven trades are not counted as wins.

Can I leave a trade open?

Yes. Leave Exit blank and the P&L, outcome, and holding-days cells remain blank.

Does it include an equity curve?

Yes. Running net P&L is added to the editable starting balance and charted by trade number.

Is this investment advice?

No. It is an educational recordkeeping workbook and does not recommend trades, securities, or strategies.
