Notice period buyout
How much to buy out the rest of your notice — and when the final wages are due
Enter the notice from your appointment letter, the day you resign and the last day you want. You get the days you still owe, the buyout on your contract basis and the dates, with the early-release request and the relieving letter request ready below.
Want a reminder on your last working day and when the final wages are due? We send it before the date.
The calendar file works without an account. Reminders need a free account to know where to send them.- Read your appointment letter first: the notice, whether buyout is allowed and on which pay (basic or gross) are set there, not by law.
- Hand in the resignation with the early-release request below; ask HR to confirm the buyout amount and the last working day in writing.
- On the last day ask for the relieving and experience letters; if the final settlement is late, the next step is the demand letter.
Arithmetic only: the notice, buyout and its basis are terms of your contract — the law does not fix them. Buyout = days you still owe × monthly pay on the contract basis ÷ 30 (or 26). Final wages: within two working days of removal, dismissal, retrenchment or resignation (Code on Wages, 2019, s. 17(2), in force from 21 November 2025); counted here Monday–Friday from the last working day, holidays not taken off.

Check the notice clause in your appointment letter before you resign — the buyout is counted the way it is written there.
Ask HR to confirm the buyout and your last day by email. A clear email now saves a fight over the final settlement later.

What to do, in order
1

4
Get it in writing
Ask HR to confirm the amount, the last working day and that it will be deducted from the final settlement.
5
On the last day
Hand over, and ask for the relieving and experience letters — the second letter below.
6
If the money is late
Final wages are due within two working days; next step — the full and final demand letter.
Questions
Can my employer refuse a notice buyout?
Buyout depends on your contract and the employer’s agreement. If your appointment letter allows pay in lieu of notice, cite that clause in your request; if it does not, the employer may still agree — ask in writing.
Is buyout counted on basic or gross pay?
On whatever your contract says. Many letters say basic, some say gross — the calculator lets you choose.
When must the final wages be paid?
Within two working days of your resignation, removal, dismissal or retrenchment (Code on Wages, 2019, s. 17(2)).
