Questions
How much does Thanksgiving dinner cost?
It depends on your guests, the size of the turkey and where you shop. Put in your own prices — the calculator multiplies sides and drinks by the number of guests and adds the turkey, pies and extras.
How much turkey per person?
USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service says to allow 1 pound of turkey per person, or 1¼ pounds for a frozen pre-stuffed turkey. Add a few pounds if you want leftovers.
When should I start thawing my turkey?
In the refrigerator, allow about 24 hours for every 4 to 5 pounds — a 20-pound turkey needs 4 to 5 days, so move it to the fridge by the Saturday or Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Can I share the cost with guests?
Yes: assign dishes in the grocery list and take them out of your budget, or divide the total by the families coming.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It is free and you do not need to sign up: fill in, see the result and download the files. With a free account you can save a copy to your Layers.
