Questions

How do I estimate my 2026 tax refund?

Add your W-2 wages (box 1) and other income, subtract the 2026 standard deduction, apply the 2026 brackets, subtract the child tax credit, and compare the result with the federal tax already withheld (box 2). The calculator does each step and shows it.

How much is the child tax credit for 2026?

Up to $2,200 per qualifying child under 17 with a Social Security number. Up to $1,700 per child can be refunded even if you owe no tax, limited to 15% of your earned income over $2,500.

Why is my refund smaller than last year?

Usually because less was withheld, your income went up, or a child turned 17. Put last year's numbers in and compare.

Does it include the earned income tax credit?

No. EITC depends on earned income, children and investment income in a way this short form does not ask for. If your income is low or moderate, check EITC on IRS.gov — it can add up to $8,231 (2026, three or more children).

Can I add no tax on tips or overtime?

Yes: work them out in our tips or overtime calculators and put the result in “Extra deductions”.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

It is free and you do not need to sign up: fill in, see the result and download the files. With a free account you can save a copy to your Layers.
