Questions

How much should I budget for a move?

Add the movers or truck, packing supplies, the deposit and first month's rent at the new place, utility deposits, cleaning, storage and travel. The calculator adds them and spreads the rest over the weeks until you move.

Are binding or non-binding estimates better?

For an interstate move, a binding estimate fixes the price; a non-binding estimate can go up. FMCSA explains both in “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move”.

Can I deduct moving expenses?

Only if you are an active-duty member of the Armed Forces moving under military orders (IRS Topic 455).

When should I change my address?

About two weeks before you move: on usps.com, plus your bank, employer, insurance, DMV and voter registration.

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

It is free and you do not need to sign up: fill in, see the result and download the files. With a free account you can save a copy to your Layers.
