Questions

How is PAYE calculated in Rwanda?

By monthly bands published by RRA: 0% on the first RWF 60,000, 10% on 60,001–100,000, 20% on 100,001–200,000 and 30% above 200,000. On a gross of RWF 300,000 that is 0 + 4,000 + 20,000 + 30,000 = RWF 54,000.

What is deducted besides PAYE?

RSSB pension 6%, the maternity leave contribution 0.3% of gross, and CBHI (Mutuelle de santé) 0.5% of net salary. On RWF 300,000 the net pay comes to about RWF 225,964.

How is CBHI 0.5% calculated?

On the employee’s net salary. The calculator takes net as gross minus PAYE, pension and maternity — the usual payroll practice; RRA does not define it further.

Will the pension rate change?

The pension contribution is set to rise in the coming years. The calculator has a pension rate field — check at the start of the year and change it if RSSB announces a new rate.
