Holiday pay
Your holiday pay — base rate, leave loading and the leave you earn each year
Your base hourly rate, ordinary hours and the weeks you're taking. You see your leave pay, the loading if your award or agreement gives one, and an Excel file with your leave balance pay by pay.
- Check your award or agreement for a leave loading clause — the Fair Work Ombudsman's pages let you filter by industry.
- Send the leave request in writing and keep the approval.
- Compare the holiday pay on your payslip with the calculation; if it's short, ask your employer, then the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Arithmetic: leave pay = base hourly rate × ordinary hours × weeks; loading = leave pay × the loading %; leave earned = 4 weeks of ordinary hours a year (National Employment Standards). Loading is paid only if your award or agreement says so (Fair Work Ombudsman). Long service leave is state law and not counted. Before tax; not legal advice.

Questions
Do I get 17.5% leave loading?
Only if your award or enterprise agreement says so — it's not part of the National Employment Standards. Many awards give 17.5%, and some shiftworkers get their shift loading instead if it's higher.
How much annual leave do I get?
Full-time and part-time employees get 4 weeks a year based on their ordinary hours: 38 hours a week means 152 hours; 20 hours a week means 80 hours. Casual employees don't get paid annual leave.
Is overtime included in holiday pay?
No. Annual leave is paid at your base pay rate, without overtime, penalty rates, allowances or bonuses, unless your award or agreement says otherwise.
What happens to unused leave when I leave?
Your employer must pay it out, at the amount you would have got if you'd taken it — including any loading.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It's free and you don't need an account: fill it in and download. With a free account you can save a copy to your Layers and come back to it next year.
