Questions
How is severance calculated in Croatia?
One third of the average monthly pay of the last three months times your completed years with the employer, up to six months’ pay (Art. 126). With €3,200 and 8 years: €1,066.67 × 8 = €8,533.33.
Who is entitled to severance?
An employee dismissed by the employer after two years of continuous work, except for dismissal for conduct and employees aged 65 with 15 years of pension service.
How much of it is tax-free?
According to the Tax Administration, up to €960 per completed year with that employer; anything above is taxed as salary. Check at the start of the year.
Do I get severance if I resign?
No — the Labour Act gives severance when the employer gives notice. With a mutual termination agreement, the amount is whatever the agreement says.
