Self-hosted runs in Docker and installs in an air-gapped network too. The admin panel shows who signed in and from which device — and access is revoked with one click. ### No module locked behind a plan Free for teams of up to 20 people, with no time limit. Cloud from $9 per person per month, with call recording. Self-hosted pricing is on request; setup, support and customization are billed separately, by agreement. ## Calls — https://layers.md/meet **Call your whole team — right from the chat** Start a call right from the group chat: colleagues and guests with a link share one grid, everyone gets a tile with their name, and you can see who is speaking. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams get on a call **Without Layers Calls:** Calls live in a separate service, and the link gets dug out of the chat five minutes before the start; A guest with the link walks into the call without asking; While the call is on, you can’t switch to your tasks; After the meeting, nobody remembers who said what. **With Layers Calls:** A call starts right in the group chat; A guest joins once you accept the request; The call shrinks to a bar so you can keep working; Call recording, from the Plus plan. ### A call right from the chat (01 · Call) From a group chat, a direct chat, a link or an event in the calendar — no separate service. ### A call from the group chat header Click Start a call in the group header and join — your camera and mic stay off until you turn them on. Colleagues join next, and each gets a tile with their name. ### A call link in a second The Call connection details window has the link to the call: Copy link and send it. The link works until the date shown. - A colleague calls from a direct chat — you get a window to decline or join. - A meeting with a call link, right in the calendar: a regular call, a conference or a webinar. ### The whole team and guests in one grid (02 · Bring everyone in) The grid rearranges itself, guests join with your consent, and the organizer runs the call. ### The whole team in one grid Someone joins and the grid rearranges itself. Everyone has a tile with their name, and a voice badge lights up on whoever is speaking. ### Guests only with your consent A guest opens the group call link and asks to join. In Participants they are marked Anonym: accept them one by one or all at once with Accept all requests. - A guest’s request pops up right in the call: View or Accept. - Invite in the call bar gives you a link to bring more people in. ### The organizer stays in control In the In call list, each participant has a menu: pin to the screen, hide their video or mute them just for you. And for everyone: mute, disable the camera or remove from the call. ### Share, chat and keep working (03 · Work in the call) Screen sharing, call chat, a raised hand and noise reduction. The call shrinks to a bar and stays out of your way. ### The presenter’s screen, up front A colleague shares their screen — it takes over the whole stage, and participant tiles with names stay on the side. ### Write without interrupting Drop a link or a question in the call chat while someone is talking. The call’s messages live in their own panel: your colleagues’ messages and your replies. ### The call goes on, and so does the work Minimize the call and it moves to the bottom of the menu. Open your projects: the bar with mic, camera, screen and leave buttons stays put. ### Hand, sound, layout and pin - **Raised hand.** One button in the call bar puts a hand on your tile. - **Noise reduction.** Call settings: microphone, camera, speaker and noise reduction. - **Two layouts.** Dynamic layout or Sidebar — whichever suits the call. - **Pin to the screen.** Pin a participant and their tile fills the whole stage. ### What was said in the meeting, easy to find (04 · Look back) A group moderator turns on recording in the call, and after the meeting it appears in Recordings. With a connected speech recognition model, you also get a transcript with timecodes and a breakdown by speaker. Recording is on paid plans, starting with Plus. ### A transcript you can search From the call recording: every line with a name and a timecode. Type a word into search and only the lines with it remain. Requires a connected speech recognition model; transcription uses AI credits. ### Who talked how much With a connected speech recognition model, the Speakers tab shows each participant’s talk time and share, and the meeting timeline shows where they spoke. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control over your data? Deploy Layers on your server: the same calls, chats and calendar. ### Calls next to chat, calendar and tasks Messages live in Chat, meetings in Calendar. The whole module is on the Communication page. - **Self-hosted.** A Docker image for a closed network: calls go through your server. - **Guests with your permission.** A guest with a link joins a group call only after you accept them. - **Links that expire.** A quick call link works until the date you see. - **Confidentiality labels.** The participants only label keeps a meeting from being recorded or sent to an external AI. ### FAQ **Does a guest need an account?** No. A guest opens the call link and enters a name. With a group call link, they first ask to join, and you accept them. **How many people fit in a call?** It depends on the call type chosen in the calendar event: a conference holds up to 300 people, a webinar up to 1,000. In a webinar, the speakers talk and everyone else listens. **Can I keep working without leaving the call?** Yes: minimize the call to a bar and it stays at the bottom of the menu while you open projects and other sections. **Can the organizer mute someone?** Yes: Participants → the participant’s menu → Mute for everyone. The same menu can disable their camera or remove them from the call. **Where do I find the meeting transcript?** If the call was recorded and a speech recognition model is connected, in Recordings: the meeting has a Transcript tab with search and a Speakers tab. A group moderator turns recording on with Start recording, and every participant sees that it is on. In the cloud, recording is on paid plans, starting with Plus. Transcription uses AI credits and is turned off in the desktop app for now. On your own server, recording needs the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately, and the administrator connects the speech recognition model. ### Call your whole team — right from the chat Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Chat — https://layers.md/chat **Message your team — and see that they read it** Groups and direct chats, mockups right in the feed, reactions and two “read” ticks. You can even see who is typing a reply. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams message each other **Without Layers Chat:** Mockups in email, voice messages in a messenger, tasks in a tracker; Answers to a question get lost in the shared feed; No way to tell whether a message was read; A typo can’t be fixed — only sent again. **With Layers Chat:** Replies go to a thread in a separate panel; Voice messages, videos and files right in the feed; Two ticks mean it was read; You can edit your own message. ### Conversations where answers don’t get lost (01 · Write) Threads, mentions, reactions and message editing — in the group feed. ### Replies go to a thread in a separate panel Reply to a message in a thread and the conversation opens in its own Discussion panel, while the main feed stays clean. Thread replies take reactions too. - Type @ and the suggestions show your colleagues. A mention is highlighted in the feed. - Hover a message and react in one click. ### Made a mistake? Fix it Your own message has more actions: copy, forward, pin, edit and delete. A fixed message is marked “edited”. ### See that they read it — and are replying One tick means the message was sent, two mean it was read. And while a colleague writes back, you see it under the feed: “Sofia Rossi is typing…”. ### Voice, video and files right in the feed (02 · Share) A voice message instead of a long text, mockups and videos with previews, a document as a card. ### Quicker to say it? Say it Hold the mic in the message box and talk; changed your mind — slide away. Let go and the voice message goes to the chat, where it plays right in the feed. ### A mockup, a video and a document in one message Attach several files at once: the image shows in the feed, the video plays right in the chat, and the document appears as a card with its size. - A link unfolds into a preview: site, title, description and image. - The group’s media in one place — the Media tab in Group info. ### Chats that are easy to find your way around (03 · Stay organized) Groups and direct chats across all your spaces, pins, forwarding and quiet when you need it. ### The same chats in every space Groups and direct chats sit in one list, and it is the same in all your spaces. Start a new group or a direct chat right from here. - An important message gets pinned above the group feed. - The group’s documents are on the Files tab in Group info. ### Invites, forwarding, members and quiet - **Invite to a group.** Invite someone by email or send an invite link. - **Forwarding.** Forward a message to a group or a direct chat — with a note of who it’s from. - **Group info.** The group’s members, meetings, media and files in one panel. - **Quiet when you need it.** In a direct chat: no notifications for an hour, a day, forever — or mentions only. ### From chat to a call (04 · Call) A group call right from the chat, a one-click call from a direct chat and, from the Plus plan, call recording. Schedule a meeting in Calendar. ### A call is one button in the group header Click Start a call and join — colleagues join next, each with a tile with their name. Everything about calls is on the Calls page. ### What was said in the meeting, easy to find The Transcript tab has every line with a name and a timecode. Type a word into search and only the lines with it remain. Requires a connected speech recognition model; transcription uses AI credits. - A colleague calls from a direct chat — you get a window to decline or join. - A colleague’s card has their email, position and the Send message and Start a call buttons. ### Free for up to 20 people. While a colleague is writing back, you see under the feed that they are typing. **Can I edit or delete a message?** Yes, your own: More actions → Edit or Delete. An edited message is marked “edited”. **Do I see my chats if I’m in several spaces?** Yes: direct chats and groups are visible in all your spaces. **How do I add someone to a group?** Group menu → Invite: by email or with an invite link. **Can I turn notifications off?** Yes, in a direct chat: for an hour, a day, forever — or keep mentions only. ### Message your team — right next to the work Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Calendar — https://layers.md/calendar **Meetings and your task deadlines in one week** Day, week, month or year — meetings, your task deadlines and client bookings in one grid. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams plan their week **Without Layers Calendar:** Meetings in one calendar, task deadlines in a tracker; The call link gets copied from another service; Who’s coming gets sorted out in the chat; The phone calendar lives apart from the work one. **With Layers Calendar:** Meetings and your task deadlines in one week; A meeting with a call link in one window; The calendar warns you right away if someone is busy; A subscription in your phone’s calendar. ### The whole week on one screen (01 · See) Meetings, your task deadlines, client bookings and invitations from mail — in one grid. No switching between services. ### Meetings and your task deadlines in one week The weekly stand-up and the design review sit in the hourly grid. Your task deadlines are there too: timed ones in their hour, the rest in the All day row. ### Your task deadlines in the day panel On the right is the selected day: Task deadlines by the hour. Below them — Create on this day. ### A meeting in half a minute (02 · Plan) Select the time with your mouse or click New event. The calendar warns you when someone is busy, and the event card shows the responses. The call itself happens in Layers Calls. ### Busy? The calendar tells you right away Add a participant at a time they’re booked, and a warning appears at the bottom of the window: “… is busy at this time”. ### See who’s coming in the event card Everyone answers Going, Not going or Maybe — the organizer sees the answers next to the names. ### Join the call right from the event A meeting with a link has a Join the call button in its card and a button to copy the link — send it to your guests. - Add an outside participant by email: “Invite grace@harbor-clinics.com”. - An invitation that arrived by mail is already in the calendar: Join the call and “Will you be there?”. ### Plans change — the calendar keeps up (04 · Change) Move a meeting with the mouse, change one meeting in a series or the whole series, cancel it — participants find out on their own. ### Drag it and the meeting is in its new spot Grab a meeting and drop it on another day and hour: Sprint 14 retro moves from Saturday to Sunday. ### Everything else you need from a calendar - **Meeting color.** 13 colors, so the right meeting stands out in the grid. - **Jump to a date.** Click the period to open a mini month calendar. - **One or the whole series.** Editing a recurring meeting? Type / and drop in a table, a callout or a link to a task from a project. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How knowledge lives in most teams **Without a wiki:** Procedures are scattered across chats and folders, impossible to find; Nobody knows who changed a doc or when; The text says “see the task in the tracker” — go find it yourself; A doc goes out as a file, and you never know who opened it. **In Layers Pages:** A wiki as a tree: sections and nested pages; Every edit is a version with an author, restored in one click; A task link shows the task’s title; Publishing with a PIN code and a log of who opened it. ### A team wiki in one evening (01 · Set up) Sections, nested pages, covers and icons. The structure is on the left and on the map. ### Pages form a tree Team wiki → Processes → Code review, Releases, On-call. Click + next to a page and a new one appears inside it, right in the tree on the left. - Cover: Change cover, then pick any one from the gallery. - Page font: default, Serif or Mono. ### Type / and the block is there (02 · Write) Headings, lists, tables, callouts, code and equations. One search instead of a toolbar with a hundred buttons. ### The / menu finds a block by name / opens the block menu by section: Text, Advanced blocks and more. Pick red and “October 12” stands out from across the room. ### Discussion in the margins (03 · Discuss) Comment on a phrase, reply in a thread, react and mention. Once it’s settled, close it. ### Comment on a specific phrase Select a phrase and click Comment. The phrase is highlighted in the text and the comment goes right under it: “Moved to November: the provider needs two weeks.” - Replies go in a thread, reactions take one click. - Settled? Click ✓ and the thread moves to Resolved. ### Bring in a teammate with @ Type @ and pick a person from the suggestions: “@Sofia Rossi, we need an accent colour”. The mention is highlighted in the text. ### Nothing gets lost (04 · Keep it in order) Every edit is a version with an author. Pages show up as a tree and on a map, and deleted ones go to the trash, not away forever. ### Version history: who changed what and when ⋯ → Version History. Every edit is a separate version with the date, time and author, so you can see who changed the page and when. ### The map shows the whole wiki The Mind map tab draws the page tree. + expands a branch, and clicking a page opens it on the side — without leaving the map. ### Lock, move, trash - **Lock.** Turn on Lock page and nobody edits it by accident. - **Move.** Move to, then pick a new place in the page tree. - **Trash.** Deleted pages are kept for 30 days and come back with one click. - **Full width.** Wide tables use the full width of the window. ### A page that knows about tasks (05 · Connect) Links to tasks, other pages and a section’s table of contents aren’t just text — they take you where you need to go. ### A task right in the text / → Link to task → search across projects. A link with the task’s title appears in the text: “Available slots calendar”. - A page link shows the page’s icon and title. - The child documents block builds the section’s table of contents on its own. ### Only what’s meant to go out (06 · Share with control) A public link with a PIN code, your own rules for guests and a log of who opened and edited. ### Publish with a PIN code Share → public access by link → Manage PIN code. Five digits, and without them the page won’t open. ### No PIN code, just a lock A visitor sees Access secured and five cells for the code. Until they enter the PIN code from the author, the page stays closed. - For guests: you decide whether to allow the sidebar, duplication and copying. - Give teammates access by name or email. ### A log of who opened and edited ⋯ → Audit. How many times the page was opened and by how many people, who did what and when, with filters by period, people and actions. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server whenever you want In the cloud — no card, no time limit. Need full control over your docs? Deploy Layers on your server: the same pages, the same access log. ### Pages are just the start - **Self-hosted.** A Docker image for an isolated network. - **PIN on public links.** Without the code, the page won’t open. - **Access log.** Who opened and edited, with names and times. - **Page lock.** Protected from accidental edits. ### FAQ **Is it free?** Yes: in the cloud it’s free for up to 20 people, no card. On your own server it’s licensed — see pricing. **Why is this better than a folder of documents?** Pages form a tree and show up on a map, every edit has an author and a version, and links to tasks and other pages show their titles and take you straight there. **Can I make a page public?** Yes: Share → public link. You can set a PIN code, show or hide the sidebar, and allow or block duplication and copying. Unpublish with one click. **Can I see who opened a page?** Yes: ⋯ → Audit. It lists views and edits with names and times, with filters by period, people and actions. The page owner and workspace admins can see the audit. On your own server, records can also be protected with a hash chain. **Can I download a page?** Yes: ⋯ → Export to PDF. **Can I restore an older version?** Yes: ⋯ → Version History. Pick a version and click Restore or Duplicate. **How do we discuss a document?** Select a phrase and leave a comment: replies go in a thread, there are reactions and @mentions, and settled discussions move to Resolved. **What can I add to a page?** Via /: headings, lists and checklists, tables, columns, tabs, callouts, code, equations, images, video, files, embeds, a drawing board, and links to pages and tasks. ### Docs that know about your tasks Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Projects — https://layers.md/projects **Tasks that get finished** Custom statuses and fields, sprints and milestones, subtasks and keys like BOOK-4. Tasks are created by people and by agents via MCP. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams work **Without a tracker:** Tasks live in chat and get lost within a week; Statuses sit in a spreadsheet nobody updates; Who owns what and when it’s due is kept in people’s heads; The tracker is separate from docs, mail and meetings. **In Layers Projects:** One process per team: your own statuses, types and fields; Subtasks right inside the task; Claude and Cursor create tasks via MCP; Mention a teammate right in a task comment. ### A project that fits your process in a minute (01 · Set up) Pick a template and statuses, types and fields are already set up. Adjust the rest for your team in a couple of clicks. ### Wizard, statuses, types, tags and custom fields - **Project wizard.** Four templates: Software and Technology, Creative and Marketing, Product Management, or Other. - **Statuses.** Groups: not started, planned, started, completed, cancelled. - **Task types.** Task, milestone, improvement, bug, feature — and your own. - **Tags.** Colored project tags: iOS, Android, API, Payments, Design… - **Custom fields.** Three kinds: text, link and a list with colored options. This project has Platform, Mockup link, Story points and Budget, h. ### Tasks with everything in them (02 · Fill in) A task is more than a line in a list: assignees, dates, estimates, subtasks and the whole discussion in one place. ### Everything you need to do the work is in the task Next to the description are the properties: status, type, assignees, priority, start and due date with time, time estimate and actual hours, milestone, parent task, creator and tags. Change the status right in the properties: In progress → Code Review. - A task can have several assignees: Sofia joins Liam in one click. - Priority is urgent, high, normal or low. Urgent is highlighted in red. ### Subtasks right inside the task Create a subtask from the task itself: Add subtasks → Create new, and it appears in the subtasks table with its own key, status and assignee. ### One project: views, sprints, folders (03 · Organize) The same tasks as a list, a board or grouped by person. Work is split into sprints, and nothing gets copied. ### List to plan Tasks are grouped by status, each with a key, assignee and priority. Open the project and see who is doing what. ### Board to run the work One click on the Kanban tab and the same tasks become status columns. Nothing is copied: move a card on the board and the list changes too. ### Group by person, status or priority Group by status, task type, assignee, priority, tags or milestone. Pick Assignee and the list regroups by person. ### Sprints live inside the project The project is split into sprints: Sprint 13, 14, 15, plus a Sprint archive folder for finished ones. ### Faster every day (04 · Run the work) Drag a card and the status updates. Edit many tasks at once, filter and search without extra clicks. ### Drag it and the status updates On the board, columns are statuses. Drag card BOOK-3 into In progress and the task’s status changes. No forms, no confirmations. ### Bulk edits, filters, search and more - **Bulk actions.** Select several tasks and change the status, type or assignees for all of them at once. - **Filters.** By status, type, priority, tags, milestone, people and dates. Pick High priority and the list narrows right away. - **Search.** Search tasks right in the sprint list: it narrows as you type. - **Display.** Show only the columns you need: estimate, actual hours, dates, tags, milestone, subtasks. - **Closed tasks.** A toggle shows completed and cancelled tasks, which are normally hidden. - **Attachments.** Mockups and files live in the task itself. - **Estimate and actual.** Time estimate and actual hours in the task properties. - **Tasks in your calendar.** Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or any CalDAV client. ### The team stays in the loop without calls (05 · Work together) The discussion lives in the task itself: comments, replies and mentions. ### Mention a teammate right in the task Type @ in a comment and pick a person from the suggestions: “@Liam Patel please check the slot cache”. The mention is highlighted in the text. ### See where the project stands (06 · Stay on track) Milestones and the overview track progress on their own: what’s done, what’s behind and who is overloaded. ### A milestone shows how much is left Every milestone has a state, progress and a task count. “MVP: booking and deposit” is at 44%, 4 of 9, behind schedule. ### Progress tracks itself No manual reports: statuses, team load, priorities and work types on one project page. - **Statuses.** Where every task is right now — by task or by milestone. - **Work types.** How many features, bugs, improvements and regular tasks. - **Team load.** Each assignee’s share of the work — overload is visible at once. - **Priorities.** How many urgent, high, normal and low tasks. ### Not only people create tasks (07 · Extend) Connect Claude or Cursor via MCP and the agent creates tasks in the project with your permissions. ### Claude and Cursor create tasks via MCP You issue a token in settings: with Read only the agent reads data, with Read and write it also creates tasks. The task shows up in the project like any other. - **The token lives in settings.** Settings → Access Tokens: access and expiration. The frame shows Read only; to let the agent create tasks, choose Read and write. - **The key is shown once.** Copy it and keep it safe — once the window closes, you won’t see it again. - **A task from an agent.** BOOK-41 “Collect beta-tester feedback” was created via MCP — with a description, in the right sprint. - **On the board like any other.** The same task as a card, with an assignee and the Research tag. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server whenever you want In the cloud — no card, no time limit. Need full control over your data? Deploy Layers on your server: the same projects, the same apps. ### Projects are just the start - **Self-hosted.** A Docker image for an isolated network. - **Private projects.** Visible only to you — like Emma’s notes. - **Tokens with access and expiration.** Access is read or write, plus an expiration date. - **Token revocation.** A revoked token loses access immediately — the agent can’t read anything else. ### FAQ **Is it free?** Yes: in the cloud it’s free for up to 20 people, no card. On your own server it’s licensed — see pricing. **How is this different from a to-do list?** A task has a status from your process, a type, assignees, priority, dates with time, estimated and actual hours, subtasks, a parent, a milestone and custom fields. The project is split into sprints, and progress shows up in milestones and the overview. **How do I keep track of a project?** Milestones show progress and task counts; the project overview shows statuses, work types, team load and priorities. It all updates on its own, no manual reports. **Can I set up the process for my team?** Yes: your own statuses by group, task types, tags and custom fields. The project wizard gives you a ready setup in a minute, then change whatever you like. **How do tasks get into a project without manual entry?** Agents create them via MCP, external systems via the API, and meetings produce action items you confirm with one tap. The task shows up in the project like any other. **Can I see tasks in Google Calendar?** Yes: Settings → Calendar → Task Calendar gives you a subscription for Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or any CalDAV client. **Which agents can work with tasks?** Any MCP client — Claude, Cursor and others. You issue the token in settings and set its access and expiration. ### Tasks that get finished Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Editors — https://layers.md/office **Documents and spreadsheets open where they live** SumDoc and SumSheet are our document and spreadsheet editors. Double-click a file in Layers Drive and it opens: formulas calculate and a spreadsheet saves back to the same file. The same editors come as desktop and mobile apps. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams handle documents **Files back and forth:** Download the contract, edit it, upload it again; Three copies in the folder: “final”, “final2”, “really final”; You need a desktop program to open the estimate; New spreadsheets get started somewhere else, then lost. **In Layers Drive:** A file opens in its editor with a double-click; Documents and spreadsheets from the Create menu; Formulas recalculate on their own; A spreadsheet saves back to the same file. ### Documents, spreadsheets and presentations One engine, three editors. Documents and spreadsheets already open from Layers Drive; presentations are an early desktop version. - **SumDoc — documents.** Agreements and reports: headings with styles. Opens .docx in Layers. - **SumSheet — spreadsheets.** Estimates and calculations: formulas and totals recalculate on their own. Opens .xlsx in Layers. - **SumSlide — presentations.** An early version: a desktop app. Not yet built into Layers Drive. - SumDoc: an agreement from Drive — title and clauses, as in the file. - SumSheet: an estimate — hours, rates, amounts and Total. ### A file opens where it lives (01 · Open) The editor comes to the file, not the file to the editor. Double-click in Drive and it is open. No downloading and uploading back. ### An agreement in SumDoc with one double-click “Harbor Clinics contract.docx” sits in Drive next to the estimate. Double-click and it opens in SumDoc: title and clauses, as in the file. ### An estimate in SumSheet, the same way Double-click “Estimate — Booking App.xlsx” and the workbook opens in SumSheet: phases, hours, rates, amounts and Total. ### A new file without leaving Drive (02 · Create) Documents and spreadsheets start right where the rest of your team’s files live. ### A document or a spreadsheet from the Create menu In Drive’s Create menu, next to Folder, are Document and Spreadsheet. ### Spreadsheets calculate, documents keep their styles (03 · Edit) Formulas recalculate on their own, and headings rely on styles. ### Change a number — the total follows In the estimate, QA hours go from 60 to 80. The row amount becomes 3,200 and Total 35,720 as soon as you enter it. ### Styles and language - The cursor is in the agreement title, and Heading 1 is highlighted in the ribbon. - In an English workspace the SumDoc ribbon is in English: Home, Insert, Draw. ### One file instead of three copies (04 · Save) “Opened” doesn’t mean “saved”. A spreadsheet edit goes back into the same Drive file — no downloading, no copies. ### Saved — the same file is updated In the estimate, Store release hours go from 16 to 24, then back to the folder in Drive: the same files, no copy. Open the estimate again — 24 is still there, Total 35,280. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control? Deploy Layers yourself: the same Drive, the same editors. ### The editors are part of Layers - **Your own server.** Layers and the editors on your hardware. - **The spreadsheet stays in Drive.** SumSheet saves the edit to the same file. - **Access follows the file.** You can open in the editor only what you can see in Drive. - **No separate accounts.** You sign in to the editors the same way as to Layers. ### FAQ **Which files open from Drive in an editor?** .docx in SumDoc, .xlsx in SumSheet. Drive previews other files or offers to download them. **Do I need to install anything?** Not in the browser: if the administrator has connected the editors, the file opens in a new tab. In the Layers app for Mac and Windows, .docx and .xlsx open in SumDoc and SumSheet on your computer — you can install them right from the app. **Are there mobile apps?** Yes, SumDoc and SumSheet are free for iPhone, iPad, Android and on the Mac App Store. Links are above and on the Download page. **What about presentations?** SumSlide is an early version: a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. It is not yet built into Layers Drive, and SumOffice makes no compatibility or speed claims for it yet. **Why is there no Document item in my Create menu?** The server administrator connects the editors by setting the SumDoc and SumSheet addresses. Until then, the menu only has Folder. **What if two people save a file at the same time?** The server won’t let an older version overwrite a newer one: that save is rejected. **Where do the compatibility and speed numbers come from?** They are SumOffice measurements from September 2026; every number on this page links to its source. We have not repeated them on our test stand. **Where can I learn more about SumDoc and SumSheet?** On sumoffice.com and docs.sumoffice.com. ### The document opened. The formula recalculated. The file opened again. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams store files **Files all over the place:** The file you need is buried in chats and email; You have to download an image just to look at it; Anyone a folder link gets forwarded to can open it; Delete something by mistake and it’s gone. **In Layers Cloud:** Team folders, search and filters by type; Images and PDFs open right in Cloud; Public links with a PIN code; Deleted items stay in the trash for 30 days. ### Every team file in its folder (01 · Organize) Drop files into a folder, sort them out, star what matters. Set a PIN code and only people you give the code to can open it. ### A guest only needs the code Someone without an account opens the link, enters the PIN and sees the folder: all its files download as one ZIP archive. - Select several files to download them or make copies all at once. - ⋯ → Add to favorites, and the folder gets a star. ### Nothing disappears (05 · Don’t lose a thing) Deleted items wait in the trash for 30 days. Used storage is shown in the sidebar. ### Deleted by mistake? Restore it from the trash A deleted file goes to the trash instead of vanishing and stays there for 30 days. One click and it’s back in its folder. ### Sorting, the file menu, details and storage - **Sorting.** By name, file type, date added or size — ascending or descending. - **All in the file menu.** Download, favorite, rename, move, copy, link and access — all in the file’s ⋯ menu. - **File details.** Type, size, date, owner and which folder it’s in. - **Storage.** How much is used, at the bottom of the Cloud sidebar. ### Cloud files in your email (06 · Connect) No need to download a file and attach it again — it’s already in Cloud. ### Attach from Cloud in two clicks In a new email, click the cloud icon and pick a file in Cloud — it’s attached right away. ### Free for up to 20 people. On your own server it’s licensed — see pricing. **How much storage do I get?** 5 GB per workspace on Free, 15 GB per person on Plus and 100 GB on Business. On your own server, as much as your storage allows. **Can I share with someone who has no account?** Yes: publish a file or folder and send the public link. Add a PIN code if you like — without it the link won’t open. **What does a guest see via a folder link?** Only that folder: its files, author, date and size. The whole folder can be downloaded as one ZIP archive. **What happens to a deleted file?** It goes to the trash and stays there for 30 days — you can restore it from there. **Which files can I view without downloading?** Images, PDFs and videos open right in Cloud; use the arrows to move between files in the folder. **Can I create a document right in Cloud?** Yes: Create → Document, Spreadsheet or Presentation. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams handle email **Without shared mail:** The shared mailbox password gets passed around in chat; Server settings are dug out of the provider’s help pages; The invitation is in an email, the calendar in another window; The same email gets typed from scratch every time. **In Layers Mail:** A colleague gets a right, not the password; Pick a provider and the servers fill in; Accept right in the email; A template fills in the subject and body. ### Your mailboxes, no migration (01 · Connect) Layers connects to the mailboxes you already have. Pick your mail provider and the server addresses fill in on their own. ### A mailbox connects in a minute Pick a provider from the list and the incoming and outgoing servers fill in: imap.yandex.ru:993 and smtp.yandex.ru:465. Credentials go to your node and are stored there encrypted. - Ready-made settings: Mail.ru, Yandex, Yandex 360, Rambler, VK WorkSpace, Gmail and more. - Any other server over IMAP and SMTP or Exchange (EWS): you pick the protocol right in the form. ### An inbox you don’t drown in (02 · Sort) Replies gather into threads, and messages go into folders and labels. ### The whole conversation in one thread Replies gather into one thread: messages from Sofia and Emma one under another, each with its own date. ### Drag a message into a folder Your own folders and subfolders sit next to Inbox and Archive. Drag “September invoice paid” onto Invoices and it’s already there. ### Labels on top of folders A message stays in its folder and carries labels too. Labels → Clients, and the label appears next to the subject. ### Search, flags and the message menu - **Search.** Type “invoice” and only the matching messages stay in the list. - **Important.** Flagged messages are collected under Important. - **Several at once.** Select several messages and mark them read in one go. - **Message menu.** Move to…, Mark as spam, Archive, Block sender — right-click a message. ### Email that goes out on time (03 · Reply) Send later, templates and the address book — right in the message window. ### The message goes out in the morning Send later → Tomorrow morning, and the message goes out on its own at 09:00 AM. The notification has an Undo button. - Templates: pick Client invoice and the subject and body fill in. - Address book: tick colleagues under Members and they’re already in To. ### Drafts, files and the sending mailbox - **Drafts.** The message saves on its own: Draft saved. - **Attachments.** Attach a file and it’s already in the message: Attachments: 1. - **From.** Several mailboxes — choose which address the message goes from. - **Reply, Reply All, Forward.** Three buttons under every message. ### A shared mailbox without a shared password (04 · Work together) Open a mailbox to colleagues: each of them reads and replies from it, and the password stays with the owner. ### A right, not the password The mailbox is open to colleagues: each gets a right, not the password — the credentials stay with you and are shown to no one. Everyone has their own level: Manage, Reply or Read. ### The shared mailbox in a colleague’s mail The sales@ mailbox shows up in a colleague’s mail next to their own: “Consultation request”, “Question about pricing”. ### See what left the mailbox and to whom Under Access there is a Who sent what log: “Re: Consultation request”, “Re: Question about pricing” and their recipients. Above it the colleague sees their rights: “You can read this mailbox and reply from it”. ### Set it up once and it runs itself (05 · Automate) Rules sort your mail, an auto-reply answers for you, and forwarding sends copies to a deputy. ### Rules sort your inbox The “Invoices from accounting” rule catches mail from accounts@. Actions: a label, a folder, mark as read, mark as important, trash, forward or reply with text. Run it over mail that’s already there too: “Examined 12 letters, the rule applied to 3.” ### Auto-reply, forwarding, signatures - **Auto-reply.** Replies while you’re away: October 12 to 19, and only to people who have written before. - **Forwarding.** Copies of incoming mail go to a deputy, and forwarded mail is marked as read. - **Signatures.** Several signatures: Full by default, Short in replies. - **Blocked senders.** Addresses whose mail goes straight to the trash. ### Mail knows about your calendar and Cloud (06 · Next to your work) Answer an invitation right in the email and see it in the Layers calendar. Attach a file from Cloud without leaving the message window. ### Accept right in the email An invitation shows up as a card: subject, who invited you, time and place. Answer with Accept, Maybe or Decline, and it shows at once: You are going. ### A meeting from an email, in your calendar The invitation appears in the calendar with the status Invitation from mail. You can answer from there too: Going, Maybe or Not going. ### A file from Cloud, into the email Attach from Cloud → My Disk → Mail attachments → Pricing 2026.pdf, and the file is already attached to the message. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control? Deploy Layers yourself: mailbox credentials stay on your node. ### Mail is just the start - **Your own server.** A Docker image for a closed network. - **Encrypted credentials.** Stored on your node, not in the browser. - **A right, not the password.** Colleagues work in the shared mailbox without the credentials. - **Confidentiality labels.** For pages and meetings, from participants only to unrestricted. ### FAQ **Do I need to move my domain?** No. Layers connects to the mailboxes you already have: your domain and mail server stay with your provider. **Which mailboxes can I connect?** Any mailbox over IMAP and SMTP. For Gmail, Yandex, Yandex 360, Mail.ru, Rambler, VK WorkSpace, iCloud, Yahoo and Zoho the server addresses fill in on their own. **Can I connect a mailbox over EWS?** Yes: in the connect dialog pick Other and the Exchange (EWS) protocol. Custom folders can only be created in IMAP mailboxes. **Why does Gmail ask for an app password?** The regular mailbox password won’t work: you need an app password, which is only issued with 2-step verification on. There is a hint right in the connect dialog. **Where are passwords stored?** On your node, encrypted. They never appear in the browser or in logs, and colleagues in a shared mailbox don’t see the password. **What can colleagues do in a shared mailbox?** It depends on their level: Read, Reply or Manage. What left the shared mailbox and to whom is shown in its settings. **Can I connect several mailboxes?** Yes. They all show in the sidebar, and in a new message you choose From. ### All your team’s mailboxes in one window Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Forms — https://layers.md/forms **Ask, then work with the answers right away** Surveys, requests and tests. Branching, scores, statistics and the responses table — all in the form’s own window. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams collect answers **A survey in a separate service:** Everyone gets the same questions, even the irrelevant ones; Answers get copied into a spreadsheet by hand; No idea how many people opened the form and gave up; Tests are checked by hand, one at a time. **In Layers Forms:** The next question depends on the answer; Every answer is a table row, exported to CSV and XLSX; Views, submissions and repeat visits are counted for you; A test scores itself and shows what to review. ### A step-by-step form in a couple of minutes (01 · Build) Each question is its own step. Add an element, write the question, and the form is ready. ### 20 elements in six groups Content, text, rating, contact info, choice and file upload. Need the client’s phone? Pick Phone number in the Add element dialog. ### Each question is its own step At the bottom is the step strip: Start and the questions in order, each with icons for its elements. Click a step and it opens for editing. - The Desktop / Mobile switch shows the form at phone width right away. - A progress bar along the top shows respondents how far they’ve got. ### Everyone gets their own questions (02 · Branch) The next step depends on the answer. Ask an unhappy client what went wrong, and a happy one whether they’d recommend you. ### Conditional steps, on a diagram If the ease rating is smaller than 7, the next step is “What was inconvenient?”. Greater than 6 — “Would you recommend…”. Conditions are set in the panel to the right of the diagram. ### Each respondent takes their own path A client rates booking 5 out of 10, and the next step asks what was inconvenient. ### A form in your company’s style (03 · Style) Theme, color, logo and footer line live in the form settings. For fine-tuning, add your own CSS. ### Ready-made themes in one click Calm, North and other themes with a photo and color. Pick North and the form is repainted at once. Primary color and element rounding are right there too. ### Logo, footer line and custom CSS - **Logo.** Your company name in the header of every step. - **Footer line.** A line at the bottom of each step: “© Northwind Studio, 2026”. - **Custom CSS.** Your own rules for buttons and fields, with a class reference under Documentation. - **No branding.** Hide branding is a single switch next to Progress bar, Copyright and Logo. ### A test that grades itself (04 · Test knowledge) Points, a passing score and a breakdown of mistakes. After an attempt the respondent sees which topic to review. ### Points, passing score and attempts A 75% passing score is about 3 of 4 points. The first, last or best attempt counts, and you can show the respondent a per-question breakdown. ### Correct answers, topics and breakdowns - **Points per question.** Every question has points, a topic and a correct answer. - **Topics and materials.** A topic links to a page with the material, such as “Brand guide”. - **Attempt breakdown.** The score, whether it passed, and how each question went. - **Results in the table.** A Result column for every response: points and percent. ### After the test: what to review On the second attempt you see how the result changed: “Was 50%, now 75%”. Below, under What to go back to: the Brand topic and a link to the “Brand guide” material. ### Every answer is already in a table (05 · Work with responses) A submission is a row, a question is a column. Search, pick your columns and export — no copying by hand. ### Find the answer you need in a second Type “slot” into the response search and the table keeps only those who complained about few free slots. - Export responses to CSV or XLSX from the Export menu. - Untick a question under All questions: the column hides and the button reads Questions 6/7. ### See who opened it and who submitted (06 · Track statistics) Submissions, views, completion time, devices, countries and languages are counted for you. No report to put together. ### How many opened it and how many submitted Total submissions and views, unique users and repeat visitors — as cards above the charts. ### When, on what and from where people answer - **Completion time.** How long the form takes: from 30 seconds to 3 minutes and more. - **Devices.** How many answers come from desktop and how many from mobile. - **Countries.** Where the answers came from. - **Languages.** Which browser language respondents use. ### A form by link, no account needed (07 · Share) Publish it and send the link. Respondents don’t need to sign up, and you can lock the form with a PIN code. ### Public link and PIN code Share → public access by link: anyone with it can open and fill out the form. Need a narrower circle? Set a PIN code, and the dialog shows Manage PIN code. ### Reloaded? They pick up at the same step A respondent reloads the page on “What was inconvenient?” — the form offers to continue and opens right there. ### Online booking, straight into your calendar (08 · Take bookings) A client books a service, and the booking appears in your calendar. ### A client booked — the slot is taken Olivia Brown booked an “App launch consultation”: at 17:00 your day shows a meeting with the service name and her name. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control over responses? Deploy Layers yourself: the same forms, the same apps. ### Forms are just the start - **Your own server.** Responses never leave your network. - **PIN code on a form.** Only people with the code can fill it out. - **Workspace access.** Members with rights can see and edit the form. - **Confidentiality labels.** For pages and meetings, from participants only to unrestricted. ### FAQ **Is it free?** Yes: in the cloud it’s free for up to 20 people, no card. The booking appears in the calendar, and the client can cancel it via their own link. **How do I export responses?** In the Responses tab → Export: CSV or XLSX. **Can I remove “Made with Layers”?** Yes, with the Hide branding switch. In the cloud — on paid plans; on your own server — right away. ### Ask, then work with the answers right away Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Flow — https://layers.md/flow **A diagram is worth a thousand words** The whole process on one canvas: shapes, labelled arrows and notes right beside them. Drag from the edge of a shape and the arrow is in place. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How processes usually get described **Without a diagram:** The process is written up in chat paragraphs, and the “if… then…” branches get lost; The diagram lives as an image: every edit is a new file; Nobody remembers which version is the latest; The only way to show a client is a file attachment. **In Layers Flow:** Arrows labelled Yes and No, on one diagram; Every save is a version with its author and time; A public link, with an optional PIN code; A published flow, right on a page. ### A process on the canvas in ten minutes (01 · Draw) Shapes, arrows and labels. The canvas is infinite, so there’s room for any process. ### Everything you need in one menu Shapes and lines: lines, arrows, five shapes and ten colors. Pick the diamond, it lands on the canvas — type in your question. ### An arrow pulls from the edge of a shape Drag from the edge of one shape to another and a line appears. On its toolbar, add an arrowhead and a label: Yes, No or “If late”. - Fill, color and text size live on the selected shape’s toolbar. - An arrow can be curved, dashed or elbowed. ### More than boxes on the canvas (02 · Add more) Text, images, tables, emojis, service logos and a pen — right next to the process. ### A warning on the diagram itself The Text tool puts an alert callout on the canvas: red, with an exclamation mark. Type the condition — “Refunds on request” — and place it next to the right step. ### Images, tables, emojis and a pen - **Images.** An image sits on the canvas next to its step: the banner goes with Banner mockup. - **Table.** A table as a block on the canvas: channel, date, owner. - **Emojis and icons.** Two tabs, emojis and icons, with search. - **Pen.** Circle what matters by hand — in red or another color. - **Service logos.** Discord, GitHub, Instagram, LinkedIn and more — with search. - **Eraser.** The eraser wipes out what you don’t need in one pass. ### Straight lines without a ruler (03 · Tidy up) Guides, groups, alignment and layers. The diagram stays readable even with many steps. ### A shape lines up on its own Drag a shape and blue guides appear, so it snaps into line with its neighbor. ### Several steps, one group Drag a frame around several shapes and group them. You can give the group a name, like Payment. ### Alignment, layers, grid and undo - **Alignment.** Select several shapes and align them by an edge or the center. - **Layers.** Bring to front, send to back, forward or backward. - **Dot grid.** Show the grid and turn on snapping to it. - **Undo.** Changed your mind? One button takes you a step back. ### One link instead of a screenshot (04 · Show it) A preview for viewing, a public link with a PIN code, the flow right on a page, and PNG when you need a file. ### Just the diagram, as readers will see it In Preview the screen shows only the diagram, with no editing tools. Zoom in and move around, then go back to editing with the red Close preview button. ### Public link and PIN code Share → Publish, and anyone with the link can open the flow. Need protection? Set a five-digit PIN code. ### No PIN code, just a lock A guest sees Access secured and five boxes for the code. The right PIN opens the flow, with no editing tools. ### The flow right inside a page Insert a published flow into a page: readers see it inside the text without leaving the page. - Export to PNG — a single item in the flow menu. - Who has access and with what role: owner, admin, member. ### A flow remembers every save (05 · Keep) Version history with author and time, shared and private flows, a copy in one click. ### Every save is a version Every save lands in the version history: each version shows its date, time and author. - Shared and private flows are kept apart, and the ones you need are in Favorites. - A copy of a flow is one Duplicate away. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control over your data? Deploy Layers yourself: the same flows, the same pages and projects. ### Flow is just the start - **Your own server.** A Docker image for a closed network. - **PIN on the public link.** Without the code the flow won’t open. - **Private flows.** Visible only to you. - **Version history.** Every save with its author and time. ### FAQ **Is it free?** Yes: in the cloud it’s free for up to 20 people, no card. On your own server it runs under a license — see pricing. **What can I draw?** Shapes (rectangle, circle, diamond, triangle, star), lines and labelled arrows, text with lists and callouts, tables and columns, images, emojis, service logos and freehand drawing. **Can I show a flow to a client?** Yes: Share → Publish, and anyone with the link can open it. Claude, Cursor and other agents connect over MCP and work with tasks, pages and forms. No card required · free for up to 20 people ### How AI works for most teams **AI on the side:** The chatbot doesn’t know your tasks or docs; Answers get copied into the tracker by hand; An agent gets full access — or none at all; No one knows who spends how much on AI. **AI in Layers:** The assistant answers from your workspace tasks; Agents create tasks and pages over MCP; Tokens: read only or read and write, with an expiry; AI features and per-person limits stay with the owner. ### An assistant that knows your tasks (01 · Ask) An AI chat built into Layers. It searches your workspace tasks on its own and answers with links to them. ### What’s on me today — in one question The assistant finds your tasks for today and shows the priority and status of each. Every task name links to the task. ### It suggests where to start A new chat opens with four suggestions: What is on me today, Overdue tasks, Sprint summary and Who is doing what. ### The agent works in your workspace (02 · Connect) The Layers MCP server gives an agent tasks, pages, forms and projects. What the agent does shows up right away — as if you did it yourself. ### From plan to tasks, no manual entry The agent breaks a plan into tasks and sets assignees and due dates. The tasks land in the list with their own keys, just like ones created by hand. ### Notes from the agent go straight to Pages The agent creates a page in the right folder and adds sections with headings and lists. “Sprint 14 retro notes” sits under “Meeting notes”. ### A form from the agent, questions included The agent builds a form: a start screen and four questions as steps. ### And publishes it Public access by link is on; one button unpublishes it. ### The agent comments on a task — as you The agent’s comment appears in the task’s Activity like your own: the author is the token owner. ### An agent gets exactly the access you give it (03 · Grant access) The agent signs in with a token. You set its access and expiry, and revoke it in one click. ### Access and expiry, set when you create the token With Read and write access, the token creates and changes tasks, pages and comments — everything you can do yourself. Expiration: 7, 30 or 90 days, 1 year, or never. ### See who has what access Every token has its own access, expiry date and status. To revoke one, use the button in its row. ### Your own MCP servers, in the assistant (04 · Extend) Connect a wiki, a CRM or your own service over MCP, and the Layers assistant will work with it. ### A connector is a name and an address A name, the server address — and a token if the server requires authorization. A feature switched off disappears for everyone in the workspace. ### A limit per person — or AI off One monthly limit applies to everyone without a limit of their own. A person’s menu has Set a limit, Same as everyone and Turn AI off. ### Free for up to 20 people. Self-host whenever you want In the cloud — no card, no time limit. On your own server you get the same MCP server, and your admin connects the model for the assistant. ### AI is just the start - **The person’s own permissions.** An agent can only do what the token owner can do. - **Scoped, expiring tokens.** Read only or read and write, from 7 days to a year. - **AI features under lock.** Any feature can be turned off for the whole workspace. - **Your own model.** On your own server — any OpenAI-compatible provider. ### FAQ **Do I need an AI key to connect Claude or Cursor?** No. The Layers MCP server works on its own: the agent brings its own model, and Layers gives it tools and data under your token. **How do I connect an agent?** Create a token in Settings → Access Tokens, then add the Layers MCP server address and that token to your MCP client. **What can an agent do?** More than 50 tools: tasks (including in bulk), pages, forms, projects, sprints, folders, tags, comments, search and trash. With a read-only token it can only look. **Can an agent see other people’s documents?** No. The agent works with the token owner’s permissions and sees exactly what they see. **Which models can the assistant use?** On your own server, the admin connects OpenAI, OpenRouter, Gonka or any OpenAI-compatible server — including a local model via Ollama. **How do I cap spending?** A monthly limit per person — shared or individual. AI can be turned off for a specific person, or a feature turned off for the whole workspace. ### Your agents work right inside Layers Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Communication — https://layers.md/connect **Calls, chat, calendar and contacts in one window** On the left: your team’s chats, calendar and contacts. On the right: a group call started right from the chat, where colleagues and guests with a link share one grid and you can see who is speaking. No card · free for up to 20 people ### How most teams communicate **Without Communication:** Calls live in a separate service, and the link gets dug out of the chat five minutes before the start; A guest with the link walks into the call without asking; Answers to a question get lost in the shared feed; Task deadlines aren’t visible next to meetings. **With Layers Communication:** A call starts right in the group chat; A guest joins once you accept the request; Replies go to a thread in a separate panel; Meetings and tasks in one week. ### A call from the chat for the whole team (01 · Call) A call right from the group chat, guests with a link and your consent, screen sharing and noise reduction. ### A call is one button in the group chat Click Start a call in the group header and join — your camera and mic stay off until you turn them on. Colleagues join next, and each gets a tile with their name. ### Guests only with your consent A guest opens the group call link and asks to join. In Participants they are marked Anonym: accept them one by one or all at once with Accept all requests. - A guest’s request pops up right in the call: View or Accept. - Quick call: copy the link and send it — it works until the date shown. ### Screen, hand, sound and layout - **Screen sharing.** The presenter’s screen up front, participant tiles on the side. - **Raised hand.** One button in the call bar puts a hand on your tile. - **Noise reduction.** Call settings: microphone, camera, speaker and noise reduction. - **Two layouts.** Dynamic layout or Sidebar — whichever suits the call. ### A chat where answers don’t get lost (02 · Write) Groups and direct messages, threads, mentions and reactions. Important messages get pinned above the feed. ### Replies go to a thread in a separate panel Reply to a message in a thread and the conversation opens in its own Discussion panel. Any message takes reactions, thread replies included. - Type @ and the suggestions show your colleagues. A mention is highlighted in the feed. - An important message gets pinned above the group feed. ### The same chats in every space Groups and direct chats sit in one list, and it is the same in all your spaces. Start a new group or a direct chat right from here. ### Invites, forwarding, files and quiet - **Invite to a group.** Invite someone by email or send an invite link. ### A calendar that knows about your tasks (03 · Plan) Day, week, month and year. Meetings, repeats and your task deadlines in one grid. ### Meetings and tasks in one week The weekly stand-up and the design review sit in the week grid. Tasks follow their due dates: timed ones right in the grid, all-day ones in the All day row. View by day, week, month or year. ### A meeting with a call, right from the calendar The event has a reminder, Every week repeat and Add a call link. Call type: a regular call, a conference for 300 people or a webinar for 1,000. - Invite a colleague who’s booked and the calendar warns you right away: “is busy at this time”. - The event card shows who’s coming: Going, Not going, Maybe. ### Your calendar in your phone’s app A subscription for iPhone and Mac, Android, Google Calendar and others: Open in Apple Calendar in one click, or connect it as a CalDAV account. ### Colleagues and contacts at hand (04 · People) A person’s card with one-click message and call. Contacts on your phone too. ### Who to message and who to call - **My contacts.** Everyone you work with: search, filter, message and call right from the list. - **Contact card.** Email, organization, department and position — plus Send message and Start a call buttons. - **Contacts on your phone.** Colleagues show up in Contacts on your phone and your Mac. - **Incoming call.** A colleague calls from a direct chat — you get a window to decline or join. ### What was said in a recorded meeting, easy to find (05 · Recordings) A group moderator records the meeting, and with a connected speech recognition model a transcript appears in Recordings: who said what and when. Transcription uses AI credits. Recording is on paid plans, starting with Plus. ### A transcript you can search After a recorded meeting: every line with a name and a timecode. Type a word into search and only the lines with it remain. Requires a connected speech recognition model; transcription uses AI credits. ### Who talked how much With a connected speech recognition model, the recording’s Speakers tab lists each participant with their talk time and share, and a bar of their turns below. ### Free for up to 20 people. Your own server when you want it In the cloud: no card, no time limit. Need full control over your data? Deploy Layers on your server: the same chats, calls and calendar. ### Communication is just the start - **Self-hosted.** A Docker image for a closed network: your messages stay with you. **Do I see my chats if I’m in several spaces?** Yes: direct chats and groups are visible in all your spaces. **Can I subscribe to the calendar in Google Calendar?** Yes: Settings → Calendar. Tasks with due dates and, if you like, meetings show up in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or another app. View only — they are changed in Layers. **Can I share my calendar with a colleague?** Yes: Settings → Calendar access. A colleague sees when you are busy or your full meetings — whichever you allow. **How many people fit in a call?** It depends on the call type: a conference holds up to 300 people, a webinar up to 1,000. In a webinar, the speakers turn on their mic and camera, and everyone else listens. **Do contacts sync with my phone?** Yes, over CardDAV: Settings → Contacts on your devices. For iPhone, Mac and Android. ### Call and message right next to the work Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Self-hosted — https://layers.md/self-hosted **Layers on your server** One app and a few services in one docker-compose.yml. Installs in an air-gapped network too; your data never leaves your infrastructure. The hissih/layers image on Docker Hub — over 20,000 pulls. 90-day trial, then a license is required. ### From a blank server to the first sign-in Thirteen steps, each with ready code. Passwords and keys in the examples are change-me placeholders — replace them. - **Prepare the server.** Linux x86-64 with Docker and Docker Compose. A domain pointing at the server, e.g. example.com. Inside a private network you can use http://IP:8080 instead.Generate your own password for every change-me placeholder. - **Create docker-compose.yml.** One file for the whole install. Replace example.com with your domain and every change-me-… with your own value. Drop the services you don’t need — calls, editors, MCP — together with their variables. The Layers volume must be /root/layers_data: files, God Mode settings and secrets live there. The database password appears twice and must match; so does the LiveKit key.Layers and editor images are on Docker Hub: hissih/layers. - **Choose the search engine.** Layers ships three search engines, picked with SEARCH_PROVIDER (auto, manticore, elasticsearch, lucene).Manticore — recommended: a separate lightweight container, already in compose. Elasticsearch — if your company already runs a cluster: remove the manticore service and set the variables on the right. Lucene — built in, no separate service: the index lives in the Layers file directory (the layers_data volume); fits a small install. After switching engines, reindex: God Mode → Platform → Search. - **Start it.** The first start takes 15–60 seconds. When the log shows Started LayersApplication, open your domain and create the first account. - **Turn on HTTPS with nginx.** Layers serves everything from port 8080 — nginx only terminates TLS and proxies calls, editors and MCP. Editors stay on the same domain so they receive the sign-in cookie. No limit_req and no static serving in nginx — brute-force protection and caching are built in. - **Open the ports for calls.** LiveKit carries audio and video over UDP. In God Mode → Apps → Integrations → LiveKit set wss://example.com/livekit/ (trailing slash required), test the connection and enable it.If the log says could not validate external IP, replace use_external_ip: true with node_ip: . Use node_ip in a closed network too. - **Set up email.** Emails from Layers — invitations, confirmations, password resets — go out through your SMTP server from compose. The same settings live in God Mode → Platform → Email, with a test email and templates. The Mail module is a client inside Layers: people connect their existing mailboxes over IMAP and SMTP. Layers does not run a mail server of its own. - **Check the SumDoc and SumSheet editors.** The editor stores no users and no files: it asks Layers who the person is (/v1/me) and fetches the file by id (/v1/attachments). skewMin: 0 means editor and engine come from the same release. One open document takes about 250 MB of RAM; --max-cabins sets how many can be open at once. - **Connect an AI model.** God Mode → AI → Providers → Add provider. Built-in types are OpenAI, OpenRouter and Gonka; Custom connection takes any server with an OpenAI-compatible API, such as Ollama, no key required. “Test” lists the server’s models — pick the ones you want and enable them. Our test setup uses a local Ollama with gpt-oss:20b this way. The address must be reachable from the Layers container: a service name or IP, not localhost. - **Connect agents over MCP.** The MCP server is already in compose: through it the Layers assistant takes actions — creates tasks, writes pages. External agents (Claude, Cursor and others) connect to https://example.com/mcp with a personal token: in Layers → Settings → Access Tokens, read-only or read and write. - **Sign in to God Mode.** https://example.com/godmode/login, user admin and your ADMIN_PASSWORD. “Getting started” is the server checklist: domains, email, sign-in, modules, branding. Each item is marked done from the server’s actual state. - **Enter the license key.** The trial period is 90 days; after that a license is required. The key is one line: God Mode → System → License → “Apply key”. It is verified on the server itself. - **Update and back up.** Updating means a new image; the database, files and settings stay in the volumes. Pin a tag instead of latest for predictable updates — the running tag is shown in God Mode → Operations → System health. There is no built-in database backup in the panel: back up the database with pg_dump, files and settings as an archive of the layers_data volume. ### Air-gapped install — images as an archive Pull the images on a machine with internet access and carry them over as one file. The license is checked on the server itself; the module catalog reaches out to the registry, and inside a closed network AI works with a local model only. ### How it runs for us Every screenshot and clip on this site comes from a local test setup running exactly these services. Ports are shifted to 18xxx to avoid clashes; Mailpit and GreenMail are there only to test email. - Layers, Image: hissih/layers 2.1.184 (same jar), Port in our setup: 18080, On your server: 8080 behind nginx - PostgreSQL, Image: postgres:16-alpine, Port in our setup: 18432, On your server: db:5432, internal - Manticore, Image: manticoresearch/manticore, Port in our setup: 18308, On your server: manticore:9308, internal - LiveKit, Image: livekit/livekit-server, Port in our setup: 18880 · 18881 · UDP 18900–18950, On your server: 7880 · 7881 · UDP 50000–50100 - Mailpit (mail trap), Image: axllent/mailpit, Port in our setup: SMTP 18125, On your server: your SMTP server - GreenMail (test mailboxes), Image: greenmail/standalone:2.1.3, Port in our setup: IMAP 18143 · SMTP 18325, On your server: people’s existing mailboxes - SumDoc, Image: sumdoc-webhost, Port in our setup: 18290 · /sumdoc, On your server: 8090 · /sumdoc - SumSheet, Image: sumsheet-webhost, Port in our setup: 18292 · /sumsheet, On your server: 8092 · /sumsheet - MCP server, Image: from the distribution, Port in our setup: 18091 · /mcp, On your server: 8091 · /mcp - LLM, Image: Ollama, gpt-oss:20b, Port in our setup: 11434 · /v1, On your server: your model or provider ### Control without compromise - **Closed network.** Installs in an air-gapped network: images and updates travel as an archive. - **License on the server.** The key is verified on the server itself. - **No lock-out by headcount.** The server never blocks people above the license size. Storage — as much as your hardware holds; per-space quotas are yours to set. - **Your brand.** Name, logo, colour, default language and your own legal documents. - **Your AI.** OpenAI, OpenRouter, any OpenAI-compatible server or local models. - **Editors next to it.** SumDoc and SumSheet run beside Layers, in the air-gapped network too. ### FAQ **Do I need internet?** No — not to install from an archive, not to run, not to check the license. AI in a closed network works with a local model. **How much hardware?** Layers needs at least 2 GB of RAM plus PostgreSQL. Editors need 2 GB plus about 250 MB per open document. Images are linux/amd64. **How do I update?** docker compose pull and docker compose up -d. Data and settings stay in the volumes. **How do I back up?** The database with pg_dump, files and settings as an archive of the layers_data volume. There is no built-in database backup in the panel. **A call connects but there is no audio or video** UDP 50000–50100 or 7882 is closed on the firewall, or LiveKit cannot find its external IP — set node_ip. **What happens after 90 days without a key?** The server keeps working: sign-in, people and data are not limited, nothing is closed. Only meeting transcription slows down — it runs at low priority with a few seconds of delay. With a key everything is back to full speed. **Is there corporate directory sign-in?** Not yet: SAML, LDAP and SCIM are not supported. Sign-in with password, Google, Yandex, VK and Gosuslugi are available. ## Admin panel — https://layers.md/admin **Your whole server in one panel** Who signed in, from which device and what they did — plus a button to cut off access. The admin panel of your Layers server opens in the browser. 90-day trial · license pricing on request ### How a self-hosted server is usually run **No panel:** Cutting off a former employee means a database query or a script; No way to tell who deleted a document; Email, search and calls are configured in different files; Guesswork about what applies now and what needs a restart. **The Layers panel:** Access is cut off with one button; A log of who opened, changed, deleted and downloaded; Email, search, storage and calls in one menu; Every setting says when it takes effect. ### A node ready in six steps (01 · Launch) The checklist takes you through the steps top to bottom, and the panel checks the server itself to see what’s done. ### A first-run checklist Domains, email, sign-in and the rest, top to bottom. An item is marked Done from the server’s actual state, not because someone opened the screen. ### Only the modules you need Projects, Forms, Flow, Cloud and the other modules each have their own switch. Turn off what you don’t need in one click. - Google, Yandex, VK or Gosuslugi (ESIA): enter the app keys and turn on the switch, and a “Sign in with Google” button appears on the sign-in screen. The Right now line shows whether the button is actually there. - The company name appears in the header, the browser tab and the email signature. ### Email, search, files and calls — no config files (02 · Connect) Node services are set up through forms. Each form says what the user gets and when the change takes effect. ### Test email before you save A test email goes out with the form’s current settings, so the password and encryption are checked before anything is saved. ### Search, storage, calls and emails - **Search.** Automatic, Elasticsearch, Manticore or built-in (Lucene) — pick the engine from the list. - **Storage.** Files go to local storage or to S3 — pick the type from the list. - **Calls.** Your own LiveKit server: with the switch on, chats and channels get call and screen-sharing buttons. - **Email templates.** Registration, password reset, invitation, invite accepted, role change — each email has its own HTML template. ### Everyone on the server, in plain view (03 · People) How many people there are, who signed in, how many sessions are open and where sign-in failed. Blocking and new passwords take effect immediately. ### Every account on the node Total, signed in over 30 days, open sessions, sign-in failures in 24 hours. Search by name, address or handle, and filters: active, no email, access disabled. ### Access is cut off with one button Disable access: sign-in is blocked and all of the person’s sessions are closed. The same button restores access. - Set a password: the person loses every session and signs in with the new password. The password is not stored anywhere and never reaches the log. - Failed sign-ins over the week: address, mailbox and attempt count — password guessing is easy to spot. ### See who did what (04 · Audit log) An audit log for the whole node: opened, changed, deleted, downloaded — and who was denied access. ### An action log for the whole node A feed of events with filters: period, person, action, significance. Pick “delete” and only deletions remain. ### Who was denied access The Access denials filter leaves only attempts to open what isn’t theirs: who, when and what exactly. ### A person’s actions and log export - **A person’s actions.** A person’s card shows their actions over 30 days: when, what, on which object and the outcome. - **Export and integrity check.** Export saves what the filters selected; Check integrity walks the hash chain if the node admin has turned it on. ### No surprises after a restart (05 · Operations) Every setting says when it takes effect. What’s waiting for a restart is listed on its own screen. ### What applies now and what after a restart Settings that are read only at startup are listed under Waiting for a restart. The rest take effect after Apply without restarting. ### Health, quotas, the email queue and panel sign-in - **System status.** Server, web app and panel versions — you can see exactly what’s running on the node. - **Workspace quotas.** An exception for one workspace: storage in GB and number of members. Takes effect immediately, no restart. - **Email queue.** How many emails are waiting, sent and failed — and which ones the queue has given up on. - **Signing in to the panel.** The panel password is stored as a hash: the plain password from the file is replaced on the first sign-in. You can change it right here. ### The key never blocks work (06 · License) The first 90 days are a full-speed trial. After that you need a license; pricing is on request. The key is pasted as one line and verified on the server itself. ### A trial at full strength The panel shows how many trial days are left. Without a key, people and data are not blocked — only machine jobs slow down: meeting transcription and export. License pricing is on request; installation and support are separate, by agreement. ### Modules with a switch in the panel - **Your own server.** A Docker image for an air-gapped network. - **Action log.** Who opened, changed, deleted and downloaded. - **Panel password as a hash.** The plain password from the file is replaced on the first sign-in. - **Key checked on the server.** The license is stored only on your node. ### FAQ **Where does the panel open?** On your server at /godmode; sign in with the node admin’s username and password. The panel password is stored as a hash and is changed under God Mode access. **How much is the key, and what happens without it?** The first 90 days are a full-speed trial. After that you need a license. Pricing on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and license terms. Without a key, sign-in and data are not blocked, but machine jobs slow down — meeting transcription and export. **Which sign-in methods can I turn on?** Google, Yandex, VK and Gosuslugi (ESIA). The button appears on the sign-in screen once the app keys are filled in and the switch is on. **Do I need to restart the server after changing settings?** Not always. Every setting says when it takes effect; Restart and apply shows what’s waiting for a restart and reloads everything else without one. **What does the audit log show?** Who opened, changed, deleted and downloaded, and who was denied access, with filters by period, person, action and significance. Export follows the selected filters. **Does the panel back up the database?** No. The Backup section saves the state of the app store; back up the PostgreSQL database with your own tools. **Can I limit a single workspace?** Yes: quotas set storage in GB and the number of members for a specific workspace. They take effect immediately. ### Your whole server in one panel The app and the panel run in Docker together. Six first-run steps — from domains to connecting an AI model. ## Security — https://layers.md/security **Access down to a single page. Data where you decide.** Permissions and an access log across every product, confidentiality labels for pages and meetings — and the option to keep everything on your own server in an air-gapped network. ### A public link behind a PIN code (01 · Sharing outside) A page can be opened by link for people outside the team — and locked with a code. ### A PIN code on the public link Five digits — your own, or random with one button. The code can be changed or deleted at any time. ### See who opened, who changed and who was denied (02 · Audit log) Every page has its own audit. On your own server there is also a server-wide log with filters, export and an integrity check. ### Who opened the page How many times it was opened and by how many people, who changed what and when. Filters by period, people and actions. ### Who was denied access The server log has an Access denials filter: who, to which folder or attachment, and when. ### Export and integrity check Export saves the log for the selected period. Check integrity verifies the hash chain, which is turned on in the server settings. ### Who signs in, and how (03 · Sign-in) Sign-in with familiar services, access cut off with one button, and tokens with scoped access and an expiry. ### Access is cut off with one button A person’s card in the server panel: sessions with address and expiry, Cut off sessions and Disable access. ### API tokens with scoped access and an expiry Read only, or read and write. Expiry from 7 days to a year, or never. - Google, Yandex, VK and Gosuslugi — each sign-in method is turned on in the server panel. - Failed sign-ins over the week: address, mailbox and number of attempts. ### Everything that protects your data **Access** - Roles: owner, co-owner, admin, member, guest - Access to an object: view, edit or full - Inherited permissions, teams and groups - Invitations with a role, expiry and limit **Confidentiality** - Labels for pages and meetings: participants only · need to know · whole organization · unrestricted - A label can block meeting recording - …meeting analysis by external AI - …and public links - PINs and one-time codes **Audit log** - Who opened, changed, downloaded - Who was denied access - A log of user actions - Log export to CSV - A hash chain against tampering — turned on in the server settings **Sign-in** - Google, Yandex, VK, Gosuslugi; Apple in the Mac app - Admins cut off sessions, block sign-in and see failed attempts - API tokens: read only or read and write, with an expiry **Storage** - Secrets are encrypted (AES-GCM) - Self-hosted: data, files and AI stay inside your network - Local storage or S3 **Build** - Secret leak scanning - A dependency inventory (SBOM) - A vulnerability scanner ### FAQ **Can I keep meeting conversations away from external AI?** Yes. The participants only and need to know labels don’t send the conversation to an external model: meeting transcription and analysis don’t run. Participants only also blocks recording. **Where is the data stored?** In the Layers cloud or on your own server — your choice. **Is there SSO via SAML, LDAP or SCIM?** Not yet. Sign-in is by password, or with Google, Yandex, VK and Gosuslugi. ## Download — https://layers.md/download **Layers on every device** Your team’s whole workspace on your computer, in the browser and on your own server. Everything you already have stays where it is. **How does AI work?** The AI assistant is on every plan; the amount of credits depends on the plan. You can buy more credits if you need them. Self-hosted, AI runs on your own model, including a local one. **How do I move to self-hosted?** Install Layers in Docker together with PostgreSQL — the first 90 days are a free trial. After that you need a license; pricing is on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and license terms. Setup, updates, customization and support are billed separately, by agreement. ### Get your team started today Up to 20 people — free, with no time limit. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than Bitrix24 - **Modules aren’t locked by plan.** Teams of up to 20 get mail, editors, calls and AI at no cost; plans differ in storage, team size and AI credits. Bitrix24 Free has no user limit, but mail starts on Basic and document editing on Standard. - **Self-hosted in Docker.** Layers runs in Docker: the first 90 days are a trial, the license is checked on the server itself, and pricing is on request. The Bitrix24 on-premise edition is a 12-month license. - **AI on every plan.** The MCP server and the AI assistant are on the free plan too, and a self-hosted server can use your own model. In Bitrix24, MCP starts on Basic, and on-premise BitrixGPT is a separate subscription. - **Built for teamwork, not sales.** Sprints, pages, calls and mail — without a CRM, online store or websites. If you need sales tools and business processes, Bitrix24 honestly has more. ### What Layers has out of the box Mail, editors and AI aren’t locked behind plans: every team gets every module. ### Self-hosted in Docker, with a trial The Bitrix24 on-premise edition is sold as a 12-month license. Layers runs in Docker: the first 90 days are a trial, and the admin panel shows how many days are left. Pricing on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and licence terms. ### Mail, even on the free plan Bitrix24 Free has no mail: it starts on the Basic plan. Layers includes mail on every plan — several mailboxes in one window, with folders, labels and threads. ### Open a contract straight from Drive In Bitrix24 you can view documents on every plan, but co-editing starts on Standard. In Layers the editors aren’t locked by plan: a contract in Drive opens in SumDoc. ### An agent creates tasks with assignees and due dates Bitrix24 has an MCP server too, starting on Basic. In Layers it’s on every plan: with a token, an agent breaks a plan into tasks, sets assignees and due dates, and the tasks land in the backlog just like ones created by hand. ### Layers vs Bitrix24 point by point Fifteen capabilities across work, communication, AI, sales and data. Write to contacts@layers.md. ### FAQ **How is Layers different from Bitrix24?** Bitrix24 combines a CRM, sales, websites and business processes with tasks and a messenger. Layers is a workspace for teamwork: projects, docs, calls, chat, calendar, mail, drive, forms, flows and the SumDoc and SumSheet editors, and modules aren’t locked by plan. Layers has no CRM. **How much does Layers cost compared with Bitrix24?** Layers is free for teams of up to 20, with no time limit. The paid cloud starts at $9 per person per month, with every module included. Bitrix24 as of October 4, 2026 charges per company, billed yearly: Basic for 5 users — RUB 1,990, Standard for 50 — RUB 5,590, Professional for 100 — RUB 11,190 per month. Bitrix24 Free has no user limit, but no mail or document editing (Bitrix24 pricing). **Bitrix24 on-premise or Layers on your own server?** The Corporate Portal on-premise edition is a 12-month license: RUB 159,000 for 50 users, RUB 229,000 for 100, excluding VAT; the BitrixGPT and Marketplace subscription for on-premise is sold separately. Layers on your own server runs in Docker: the first 90 days are a trial, and the license is checked on the server itself. Pricing on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and licence terms — write to contacts@layers.md. You bring your own AI: Ollama or another server with an OpenAI-compatible API. **Where is the data stored?** The Bitrix24 cloud stores data on servers in Moscow. The Layers cloud runs in an EU data center, on every plan. If data has to stay in Russia or inside an air-gapped network, run Layers on your own server: the data stays with you. **Does Layers have a CRM, automations, a Gantt chart or LDAP sign-in?** Not yet. Layers has no CRM, automation rules or business processes, Gantt chart, SAML, LDAP or SCIM, and there’s no automatic import from Bitrix24 yet either. Sign-in is a password, or Google, Yandex, VK and Gosuslugi. If you can’t do without a CRM and business processes, Bitrix24 has more of them. **Does Layers include AI on the free plan?** Yes. The AI assistant is on every plan; the amount of credits depends on the plan and renews every month. Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients connect with a token — on the free plan too. In Bitrix24 the MCP server starts on Basic. **Which devices does Layers run on?** In the browser, on macOS, Windows and Linux, on iPhone, iPad and Android. And on your own server. ### Bring your team’s work into one window Start free in the cloud or deploy Layers on your own server. ## Layers vs ClickUp — https://layers.md/compare-clickup **Layers vs ClickUp: complete comparison** Projects, docs, calls and mail, AI, pricing and deployment — from an EU cloud to your own server. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than ClickUp - **Your own server.** Runs in Docker: the first 90 days are a trial, the license is checked on the server itself, and pricing is on request. ClickUp has no self-hosted option: it runs entirely in the AWS cloud. - **EU data on every plan.** The Layers cloud runs in an EU data center for everyone, free plan included. In ClickUp, choosing a data region such as the EU is Enterprise only. - **AI at no extra cost.** The AI assistant and MCP come with the plan — there’s no add-on; the amount of AI credits depends on the plan. In ClickUp, AI is an add-on: Brain AI is $9 per user per month, and the free plan gets trial access. - **Mail and file editors.** Mailboxes, SumDoc and SumSheet in the same window. In ClickUp you can only preview Word and Excel files, and email is sent from tasks. ### What Layers has out of the box Self-hosting, EU storage and AI aren’t locked behind plans: every team gets the whole workspace. ### You can run Layers yourself. Not ClickUp According to ClickUp’s help center, the service runs entirely in the AWS cloud, and the self-hosting request is still open on its feedback board. Layers runs in Docker: the first 90 days are a trial, and the admin panel shows how many days are left. Pricing on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and licence terms. ### Agents create tasks — no add-on required ClickUp has an MCP server on every plan too, but without the Everything AI add-on the free plan gets 100 calls a day. In Layers, AI comes with the plan, no add-on needed: with a token, an agent breaks a plan into tasks, sets assignees and due dates, and the tasks land in the backlog just like ones created by hand. ### Mail is a module, not email from tasks In ClickUp you send and receive email from tasks, and the free plan gets one account with 100 uses. In Layers, mail is its own module on every plan — several mailboxes in one window, with folders, labels and threads. ### Open a contract straight from Drive In ClickUp you can preview Word, Excel and PowerPoint files without downloading them, and import .docx into Docs. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than Jira and Confluence - **Tasks and docs in one product.** At Atlassian, tasks live in Jira and docs in Confluence: two products and two subscriptions. In Layers it’s one workspace, with calls, chat, calendar and mail right next to them. - **Calls next to the task.** Jira has no calls or chat of its own: teams talk in Slack or Teams, and Loom is a separate product for recorded video. In Layers a call starts from the group chat. - **Self-hosting with no end date.** Atlassian no longer sells Data Center to new customers, and from March 28, 2029 it becomes read-only. Layers installs on your server as a Docker image. - **More for free.** Free Jira and Confluence cover up to 10 users and 2 GB, with no permission settings. Layers is free for teams of up to 20: 5 GB and every module. ### What Layers has out of the box No need to wire a tracker, a wiki, a messenger and video calls together from different services. ### A call is one button in the group chat Jira has no calls or chat of its own: teams meet in Zoom or Teams and talk in Slack. In Layers, Start a call sits in the group header: you join, colleagues follow, and everyone gets a tile with their name. ### Meetings and task deadlines in one week Jira has a Calendar view for issues, and Team Calendars in Confluence start at Premium. Layers keeps tasks and docs in one workspace, with calls, chat, calendar, mail, drive, forms, flows and the SumDoc and SumSheet editors next to them. And Layers can run on your own server. **How much does Layers cost compared with Jira and Confluence?** Layers is free for teams of up to 20, with no time limit. The paid cloud starts at $9 per person per month, with every module included. Atlassian as of October 4, 2026, billed monthly for teams up to 100: Jira Standard $9.05 and Confluence Standard $6.70 per user per month; Premium $18.30 and $13.20. **Can I host Jira and Confluence myself?** Server support ended on February 15, 2024. We compare what runs on it: chat and calls, meeting recordings, tasks and mail, AI, free edition limits and the cloud. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than Mattermost - **More than chat.** The same server runs calls, projects, pages, mail, calendar and drive behind one sign-in. Mattermost handed its Boards over to community support in version 9.0. - **Recordings without Enterprise.** Group calls come with every license. Self-hosted recording works with the LiveKit Egress recording service, installed separately; in the cloud recording is from the Plus plan. In Mattermost group calls start at Professional, and recording and transcripts are Enterprise only. - **Free for up to 20 people.** The Layers cloud has no time limit and needs no card. The free Mattermost Entry is meant for teams under 50 people and shows the last 10,000 messages. - **Your server or an EU cloud.** Your own server on Docker, or a cloud in an EU data center from $9 per person. Mattermost’s air-gapped workflows are in Enterprise Advanced; its cloud is dedicated, on request. ### What Layers has out of the box On your own server, calls, tasks and mail run next to chat, with no higher-tier license. Call recording needs the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately. ### Call the whole group, no higher license needed Mattermost gives everyone one-to-one calls; group calls are on Professional, Enterprise and the cloud. In Layers, Start a call sits in the group header on every plan: you join with camera and mic off, and colleagues follow. ### After the call, see who spoke and for how long In Mattermost call recording and transcripts are on Enterprise and Enterprise Advanced. In Layers a group moderator turns on recording — in the cloud from Plus, self-hosted with the LiveKit Egress recording service, installed separately. The meeting gets Summary, Speakers and Notes: each person’s talk time and share. ### Tasks as a ready module next to chat Mattermost Boards has been community supported since version 9.0. In Layers projects are a module of their own: one click on the Board tab and the same tasks line up in status columns. ### Mail on the same server as chat In Layers mail is a module of its own: connect work mailboxes over IMAP and SMTP or EWS, and the inbox, folders, labels and threads sit in one window with chat and tasks. ### Layers vs Mattermost, feature by feature Eleven capabilities across communication, free editions, tasks, AI and deployment. Based on public data as of October 4, 2026. **Communication** - Chat: Mattermost — yes (Channels, DMs and threads are the core of Mattermost) / Layers — yes (Groups, threads, mentions, reactions and pins) - Group calls: Mattermost — partly (One-to-one for everyone; group calls on Professional, Enterprise and cloud) / Layers — yes (Group calls from chat on every plan) - Recording and transcripts: Mattermost — partly (Enterprise and Enterprise Advanced only; transcripts in beta) / Layers — yes (Self-hosted — every license, with the LiveKit Egress service (installed separately); cloud — from Plus; transcripts need a speech model) **Free editions and sign-in** - Free team size: Mattermost — yes (Entry — under 50 people and 10,000 messages; Team Edition — under 250, no SSO) / Layers — partly (Up to 20 people in the cloud; self-hosted — a 90-day trial) - Single sign-on (SSO): Mattermost — partly (From Professional; removed from Team Edition in v11) / Layers — no (Not yet; password, Google, Yandex, VK, Gosuslugi) **Work next to chat** - Tasks and projects: Mattermost — partly (Boards is a plugin, community supported since version 9.0) / Layers — yes (The Projects module: sprints, board, milestones, task keys) **AI and agents** - AI assistant: Mattermost — yes (Mattermost Agents on Entry and paid plans; you connect the model) / Layers — yes (On every plan; self-hosted — a model with an OpenAI-compatible API, such as Ollama) - MCP: Mattermost — yes (Embedded MCP in Mattermost Agents) / Layers — yes (Tasks, pages and forms via a scoped token) **Deployment** - Self-hosting: Mattermost — yes (The main option: Entry, Team Edition and paid licenses) / Layers — yes (Docker; a 90-day trial, pricing on request) - Air-gapped network: Mattermost — partly (Air-gapped deployment workflows in Enterprise Advanced) / Layers — partly (The license is checked on the server itself; AI and speech recognition run on your models) - Cloud: Mattermost — partly (Cloud Enterprise — a dedicated cloud, on request) / Layers — yes (EU data center, free for up to 20 people, then from $9) ### One window for the whole team Chat, calls, tasks, docs and mail in one workspace. ### What it costs Both Mattermost and Layers quote self-hosted pricing on request. Layers cloud prices are on the site: free for up to 20 people, then from $9 per person. **Mattermost: On request** Professional, Enterprise, Enterprise Advanced — through sales. Entry is free: under 50 people, 10,000 messages; Team Edition is free: under 250 people, no SSO; Group calls from Professional; Call recording on Enterprise. Free for teams of up to 20, no time limit, no card. ### Both self-host. Layers runs all the work there Layers installs with Docker, and the license is checked on the server itself. The same server runs calls, projects, mail and AI on your own model, and the admin panel shows who signed in and from which devices. Call recording needs the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately. ### How to start There is no import from Mattermost yet: conversations in Layers start fresh. ### Frequently asked questions Didn’t find an answer? Write to contacts@layers.md. ### FAQ **How is Layers different from Mattermost?** Mattermost is self-hosted chat: channels, calls, playbooks and AI agents. On the same server Layers also runs projects, pages, mail, calendar and drive, and the desktop app adds the SumDoc and SumSheet editors. Self-hosted, group call recording comes with every license and needs the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately; in the cloud it is from the Plus plan. **How much does Layers cost compared with Mattermost?** Self-hosted Layers pricing is on request: we’ll discuss your team size, support and licence terms; the first 90 days are a trial. The cloud is free for up to 20 people, then from $9 per person per month. As of October 4, 2026 Mattermost doesn’t publish Professional and Enterprise prices either: sales quotes them. **What are the limits of Mattermost’s free editions?** According to Mattermost’s docs, Entry is meant for teams under 50 people and shows the last 10,000 messages across all channels. Team Edition is for under 250 people and has no SSO: version 11 removed it. **Does Layers suit an air-gapped network?** The license is checked on the server itself, without contacting us. AI connects to your own model with an OpenAI-compatible API, such as Ollama, and the admin connects your own speech recognition model for meeting transcripts. **Where is the data stored?** On your own server — with you. In the Layers cloud — in an EU data center, on every plan. Mattermost’s main option is your own server, and its dedicated Cloud Enterprise is available on request. **What doesn’t Layers have yet?** Single sign-on via SAML, LDAP or SCIM — Mattermost has it from Professional. There is no import from Mattermost yet either. You sign in with a password, or with Google, Yandex, VK or Gosuslugi. **Which devices does Layers run on?** In the browser, on macOS, Windows and Linux, on iPhone, iPad and Android. And on your own server. ### The whole workday on your own server Deploy Layers yourself or start free in the cloud. ## Layers vs Notion — https://layers.md/compare-notion **Layers vs Notion: complete comparison** Projects, docs, calls and chat, AI, pricing and deployment — from an EU cloud to your own server. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than Notion - **Everything in one window.** Docs, tasks, calls, chat, calendar, mail, drive and editors behind one sign-in. In Notion the calendar is a separate app, and there are no calls or chat. - **Calls next to the work.** A call starts from the group chat, and projects stay open while it runs. Notion can take notes on Zoom, Meet or Teams calls but can’t place calls itself. - **Your data, your choice.** A Docker image for an air-gapped network, or a cloud in an EU data center on every plan. Notion runs only in the AWS cloud; EU storage is Enterprise only. - **Agents create tasks.** Over MCP an agent creates tasks with assignees and due dates, pages and forms. Notion has an MCP server too, but its projects are built on databases. ### What Layers has out of the box No need to buy calls, a messenger and a calendar separately and wire them together. ### A call is one button in the group chat Notion has no calls or chat of its own: teams meet in Zoom or Meet and talk in Slack. In Layers, Start a call sits in the group header: you join, colleagues follow, and everyone gets a tile with their name. ### Meetings and task deadlines in one week Notion Calendar is a separate app that shows your Google, iCloud or Outlook calendars. In Layers the calendar is part of the workspace: meetings and your tasks by due date share one week. Timed ones sit in the grid, all-day ones in the All day row. ### Tasks as a ready module, not a database In Notion, projects are built on databases. In Layers they are a module of their own: one click on the Board tab and the same tasks line up in status columns. Nothing is copied. ### An agent creates tasks with assignees and due dates Notion has an MCP server too. In Layers an agent works with more than pages: it breaks a plan into tasks, sets assignees and due dates, and the tasks land in the backlog just like ones created by hand. ### Layers vs Notion, feature by feature Fourteen capabilities across docs, communication, AI and data. Based on public data as of October 4, 2026. **Docs and tasks** - Docs and wiki: Notion — yes (Pages and databases are the core of Notion) / Layers — yes (Page tree, the / menu, version history, publishing with a PIN) - Projects and tasks: Notion — yes (Built on databases: Timeline, dependencies, sprints) / Layers — yes (A ready module: sprints, board, milestones, task keys) - Forms: Notion — yes (On all plans; conditional logic on Business and Enterprise) / Layers — yes (Surveys and quizzes, logic between steps) - .docx and .xlsx editors: Notion — no (No own editors: a .docx can only be imported into a page) / Layers — yes (SumDoc and SumSheet open files right from Drive) - Drive: Notion — partly (Files are page attachments; up to 5 MB per file on Free) / Layers — yes (Folders, preview of images, video and PDF without downloading) **Communication** - Video calls: Notion — no (No own calls; AI Meeting Notes records Zoom, Meet or Teams calls) / Layers — yes (Calls from chat, guests by link; recording from the Plus plan) - Chat: Notion — no (Comments and discussions on pages, no messenger) / Layers — yes (Groups, threads, reactions, calls from chat) - Calendar: Notion — partly (Notion Calendar is a separate app on top of Google, iCloud or Outlook) / Layers — yes (Meetings and your task deadlines in one week) **AI and agents** - AI assistant: Notion — partly (Full access on Business and Enterprise; a trial on Free and Plus) / Layers — yes (The assistant on every plan; the credit allowance depends on the plan) - MCP server: Notion — yes (Official MCP server) / Layers — yes (Tasks, pages and forms via a scoped token) **Data and access** - Self-hosting: Notion — no (Cloud only: Notion runs on AWS) / Layers — yes (A Docker image you can install air-gapped) - EU data storage: Notion — partly (Enterprise only; data is stored in the US by default) / Layers — yes (The platform runs in an EU data center on every plan) - Linux app: Notion — no (No app; Notion suggests the browser) / Layers — yes (deb, rpm and AppImage) - Free for a team: Notion — partly (With two or more members — a 1,000-block limit, files up to 5 MB) / Layers — yes (Up to 20 people, no time limit: 5 GB, files up to 25 MB) ### One window for the whole team Tasks, docs, calls, chat and mail in one workspace. ### What it costs The models differ: Notion charges per member and unlocks features on higher plans; Layers gives every module on every plan, and the price depends on team size. **Notion: $10 · $20** Plus · Business — per member per month, billed yearly. Monthly — $12 and $24; Full AI on Business and Enterprise; EU storage on Enterprise only, price on request; No calls, chat or self-hosting. From notion.com/pricing as of October 4, 2026. **Layers: $9** per person per month — teams up to 50. Business, up to 500 people — $39; Every module and AI on every plan; Cloud in an EU data center; Self-hosted — pricing on request. From layers.md/pricing. Free for teams of up to 20, no time limit, no card. ### Notion is cloud only. Layers runs on your server too Notion runs in the AWS cloud, and EU data storage is Enterprise only. The paid cloud starts at $9 per person per month, with every module included. Notion as of October 4, 2026: Plus — $10, Business — $20 per member per month billed yearly, Enterprise — on request. Notion’s full AI is on Business and Enterprise. **Can Notion run on my own server?** No. According to Notion’s help center, the service runs in the AWS cloud and the company has no data centers of its own. Layers installs on your server as a Docker image: the first 90 days are a trial, then a licence. Pricing on request: we'll discuss your team size, support and licence terms — write to us. **Where is the data stored?** In the Layers cloud — in an EU data center, on every plan. On your own server — with you. Notion stores data in the US by default, and EU data residency is Enterprise only. **Does Layers include AI on the free plan?** Yes. Based on public data. ### Where Layers goes further than Slack - **Free for up to 20 people.** No time limit, no card: 5 GB per workspace, files up to 25 MB. Slack Free shows the last 90 days of messages, and data older than a year is deleted. - **Calls with the whole group.** Group calls and guests by link on every plan; recording from the Plus plan, or self-hosted with the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately. On Slack Free huddles are one-to-one; group huddles are on paid plans, up to 50 people. - **Mail and tasks next to chat.** Chat, calls, mail, projects, pages, calendar and drive behind one sign-in. In Slack, emails can be forwarded to a channel or a DM. - **Your data, your choice.** Your own server on Docker, or a cloud in an EU data center on every plan. Slack is cloud only; EU data residency is on Business+ and Enterprise. ### What Layers has out of the box No paying extra for group calls, and no keeping mail and tasks in other services. ### Call the whole group, even on the free plan On Slack Free a huddle is one-to-one; group huddles need a paid plan. In Layers, Start a call sits in the group header on every plan: you join with camera and mic off, and colleagues follow. ### After the call, see who spoke and for how long A group moderator turns on recording — in the cloud from the Plus plan, self-hosted with the LiveKit Egress service, installed separately. After the meeting it has Summary, Speakers and Notes tabs. Speakers shows each person’s talk time and share. Transcripts need a connected speech recognition model and use AI credits. ### Mail in the same window as chat Slack can take emails forwarded to a channel. In Layers mail is a module of its own: connect your work mailboxes, and the inbox, folders, labels and threads sit next to chat. ### An agent creates tasks with assignees and due dates Slack has an MCP server too: search, messages, canvases and lists. In Layers an agent over MCP breaks a plan into tasks, sets assignees and due dates, and the tasks land in the backlog just like ones created by hand. ### Layers vs Slack, feature by feature Twelve capabilities across communication, work, AI and data.
